Big Honk'n Isolation Transformer
« on: 8 Jun 2007, 10:22 pm »
I will try to link an image. If I get I will come back and explain it

OK, so that kind of worked. I went and bought two pair of the Signal transformers to build my own Felicia.  I salvaged what I thought was an old UPS to use as a chassis.

Well, well, look what I found when I opened it. That isolation trans is about 10" across and rated  for 15 A

Gee what to do now? Any thoughts?…John

John,

I split your post into another thread. I assume that big toroid is an isolation transformer. (I'm also assuming that the metalic bolt in its center has an insulating bushing at the bottom to prevent a 'shorted turn'). Could you post some more information? What is the make and model #. How is the transformer? hooked up; how many leads, is there a green or green/yellow striped wire coming from the toroid and what is it connected to?

Regards,
Paul

Thanks Paul,

Yes it’s an Isolation trans, not balanced, Two leads in, two out. There is a filter network on the output two 15uf caps from hot-neutral-ground and a resistor small cap in there as well. I have not had a chance to take it out and trace it out.

The center bolt was insulated but it made me nervous and I have already removed it.

I think it will work well for my power amp. Now I am looking to integrate  it with my low power  stuff. Maybe carry on with  the Felicia or maybe add a couple of CMC to the output outlets…John
