The kid a little rough on the edges, but he plays a sweet guitar lick.

The reigning king of Youtube teenaged guitarists is a French 16 year old named Matt Rach.

Yea, I know that kid Matt.  Was going to include him but I was at work and got too busy to list his link.  Technically Matt is better, but Funtwo is more true to the original arrangement by JerryC.  Both are exceptional nontheless. Funny that JerryC doesn't get as much credit as the other two on Youtube, but then again JerryC isn't as good as the other two playing this lick.

Matt is toying with his instrument, acting out like a clown while playing.
He apparently does not have to concentrate on the playing...

It's too soon to say, but you could call him a virtuoso already now.
NONE of the others fall into that category...

Crickey!!! I sort of can't believe what I just saw/heard!!! Amazing!!!
I mean I've been playing since before Matt was born, but I don't sound nearly as good as this kid.

Hehe...  :thumb: I know... lack of real talent... shut it!  :D

Here is a Amadeus (Falco kick ass clip.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eCMSydlCNhA&mode=related&search=

Check out the "friends" list on his site: http://myspace.com/mattrachguitar
This dude is being taken DEADLY serious by the industry...
I've never heard his equal at this age, never!

Check out the song "You" on his myspace page... It's better than the youtube stuff by miles!!!  :guitar:

I guess this is where I start not getting it.

If there was such a thing as hell - this is the sort of "music" I would expect to be subject to and not be able to turn off.

To my mind this is utterly (and tragically) lacking in musical values, except for a few technical ones like good pitch and tempo, and reflects the abysmal state of music education in the schools and the relentless exposure on the airwaves for the last 30 years.

I know I am far from the norm in this attitude, but I am used to having control over what I listen to.

17 years ago I worked as a salesman in a high end stereo store and this sort of thing was playing almost continuously in the background because the owner was an ex hair band (Spandex and make up) lead guitarist and could play somewhat like this clip. After a few days I had to restrain myself from trashing the stereo. I was amazed at the violent feelings it brought out in me - I am not a very violent person, but I felt like destroying the stereo, not just turning it off - just to make a statement, I guess. :icon_twisted:

For the Amadeus one, I have to agree with you.  I couldn't make it more than 20 seconds into it.  It's like Yngwie Malmsteen, who's a great guitarist, but whom I can't stand.  There's no feeling in his guitar playing.  The exact opposite of Stevie Ray, for instance.  SRV bled emotion.  These guys bleed technical virtuosity.   I'm not saying that such virtuosity is bad, it's just not my cup of tea.

Oooh harsh, Russell!  :green:  That is the same feeling I get if I hear Mannheim Steamroller.  Although there's plenty of stuff I don't like, for some reason MS makes me angry.  My uncle is a nut about them and inevitably its blaring away at Christmastime.  I don't have the heart to tell my uncle it makes me want to take human life.

I've got mixed feelings about the whole guitar shredder meets classical thing.  I think it can be done tastefully.  I prefer the slow and melancholy pace of the original Canon, which is the main thing I object to in this uptempo rocker thing.  It seems like truly great music still sounds good when transferred to different instruments.  Not always, but there are certain tunes which can do that.  I wonder if the Champ's cover of "Air On A G String" would raise Russell's ire as much?  It's all guitar, no drums or bass and played at a slow tempo; it chokes me up just as much as if it were done on conventional orchestra.

Although I can't relate since I can't play guitar at that level, I do suspect that as one increases in skill it becomes more and more trivial to play at blistering speeds but unfortunately the feel can get lost with all the zany finger tapping.

I also can't tell if the kid is actually playing live or not.  Is it pure miming to a pre-recorded track or is he playing a live lead over the backing track?  The fact that it's all direct injection doesn't help.  Even the video with him on the acoustic guitar sounds plugged in.  Sort of annoying.  I'd prefer the echoey miked sound that one normally hears on YouTube.

Oh, I think it's live all right. The kid has real technical talent - he just lacks for anything to say, musically. He should not be singled out, because he is not at all alone.

What I hear is a mind numbing string of near-identical repeats of 5 or 6 musical devices as endless, mindless ornamentation for it's own sake. The musical equivalent of Rococo design in architecture - tasteless ornamentation gone wild! And we are all supposed to be impressed.

Continuous short strokes leading to no climax.

Not music!

There, I feel better now!

I do like prog fusion - sometimes - but this kind of constant shredding reminds me of Joe Satriani and a few others. Lots of technique but lacking "feeeeel". I think they all need a few years of playing the blues, as simple and slow as it usually is, before they mature.

Enjoy,
Bob

World's loaded with this stuff look at me I am different put my stuff in MOMO please, or I'll withdraw my miraculous visual-musical talent, what-ever and shift it to survivor that you may know it, for I am talented.

It seems few realize that an authentic artistic journey is long and difficult requires loads of dedication-commitment and a style or what not is something that grows organically over time through dedication to following ones inner voice, not the trends of the time.
Everyone cannot be Picasso or there would be no Van Goghs.

Please give these overnight sensations a dinner with Donald Trump, Rosy or better yet Jerry Springer, so they may feel important, we have a society that wants fame, Ala- Anna Nicole Smith but bring nothing to the table.  Then our pasteurized packaged marketed homogenized society grabs celeb mags in the grocery store like they are the Hope diamond, all the while not even knowing who Mozart or Michelangelo are. Much less their names.

Technique (even perfect technique) does not make an artist only constant effort and courage to follow ones inner voice despite no one listening or watching can deliver soul and if it ain't got soul its entertainment at best, how’s that for cynicism.  :icon_twisted:

too be fair lets see what time does..for this person, cause I can not judge if another is true to themselves, there is no way I can tell that.  what I can tell is if it has soul from my perspective at this time in my life.

But I am not backing off my rant    about the insane way our society behaves and what it values, that it's artistically bankrupt and does not care about substance.  It's primary desire is distractions, and yeah liberal artists degrees are in the toilet cause everybody wants to to be rich but after work they have nothing.  and if they can afford real visual art a dealer must instruct them what to buy and they do so to impress their friends  -

I wanna be sedated, hurry hurry hurry, yes Joey said it best!
