Rob,Quote from: Rob Babcock on 6 May 2007, 03:30 amto the vendors here I'd love some very specific recommendations. Don't worry about sounding like a shill, I want you to shill! You want, shill, I'll give you shill! For a room like that our Standard Surround Room Kit will do a stellar job. The lower "3D" drawing on the left side of this page shows where to place the various pieces:http://www.realtraps.com/placing_mt.htmWith that ceiling, and no chance to get above it, you'll hang four MiniTraps from the grid using the free clips we have available for that. The next step up is to add a row of diffusors along the back wall. But good diffusors cost more than good absorbers, so diffusion back there is more an option than a necessity. Was that enough shilling for your tastes? --Ethan

Rob,I would line those ceiling corners with Seams from the new Response PRO line. They aren't as pretty as the Adapts, but they are cheaper and now almost the same size as the Rectangles. Put four in the vertical corners as well, with the obligatory 4 Corners. Then notch out the bass nodes with your EQ. You'll get great, convincing sound if you can tame those few nodes, and clean up the echo with the Response PROs.Best,Nathan LoyerEighth Nerve
Thanks, Nathan. I've really enjoyed the Adapt Corners and Response Seams, but I've never heard of the Response PRO line. If it's on your web site I'm not seeing it anywhere?
Rob... I think the acoustic sweet spot is sitting 37% into the room from the front or rear wall (or was that 38%???). Ask Ethan for the exact amount. Speaker placement should then be set to optimize that location. I would simulate ideal speaker placement based on room dimensions and fine tune to taste. As for the rest, I would put hi-density traps (4" thick) in the corners and low density traps (2" thick) at first reflection points. I would strongly consider diffusion in the rear since you'll potentially be 9 or so feet into the room. What projector did you end up getting? How's the project coming along? If you haven't purchased your screen, I would strongly consider a DIY acoustically transparent screen with SmX cloth (~1.1 gain) and have it the width of the room. Even with a screen that big, your seating distance will be about 1.5 x the screen width, and with 1.1 gain, brightness shouldn't be a problem. A seating position to SW ratio of 1.5:1 is great for 720p and and anything larger would be a crime with 1080p! If you did use the SmX cloth, you could then pack whatever acoustic treament you want behind the screen and it'll look still look beautiful!!! You could put the screen about a foot or so in from the wall with the acoustic treatments behind it. You could then put your gear below it and make that look all fancy. Then you could put your speakers 5 or 6 feet in from the wall. It would look great!!!Keep us posted .
