I didn't think anyone else in the world had that album, but yes it is a classic.
I first heard it in 1978 played on the big magneplanar speakers as a demo album. It was incredible.
I have the "Half-speed Mastered" pressing "and" the CD. It is a vivid story with some of rocks greatest stars of that time, including Justin Hayward of the Moody Blues, David Essex, and one of the Thin Lizzy group, not to mention Richard Burton and his incredible voice.
One of my favorite tracks is on that album, a Hayward tune called "Forever Autumn".
Strangely enough, one of the cuts became a popular "disco" hit and I have the full sized single (unplayed)
For the life of me, with all the Hollywood remakes, I can't imagine why War of the Worlds has not been "REMADE". If they used this story line it would be incredible. (Are you listening Francis Ford???)
Also another tid bit. The synthesizer used in much of the album is called the "Thunderchild" which also became the name of the warship in the story that is sunk by the martians in one scene.
It is meant to be listened to straight through and is really an evenings worth of "ear and eyelid" Home Theater (close your eyes and listen, it is impossible not to project a mental picture of the scenes)
They even use the synthesizer to create a martian "howl" that raises the hairs on the back of my neck.
My CD is not sonically close to my Vinyl version, but a great listen still the same.
