A musical version of Orson Wells story. Released in 1978, features Richard Burton as Narrator.
I have the double LP which I played regularly, then I happened across the cd, and bought it on the spot even with its hefty price tag.
I find the music enjoyable similar sounding to some earlier analog sythesizer stuff. And the story itself comical (this is how we use to view Martisians). And the recording is very good.
If you get a chance to hear it, don't pass it up. :finger:

I didn't think anyone else in the world had that album, but yes it is a classic.

I first heard it in 1978 played on the big magneplanar speakers as a demo album.  It was incredible.

I have the "Half-speed Mastered" pressing "and" the CD.  It is a vivid story with some of rocks greatest stars of that time, including Justin Hayward of the Moody Blues, David Essex, and one of the Thin Lizzy group, not to mention Richard Burton and his incredible voice.

One of my favorite tracks is on that album, a Hayward tune called "Forever Autumn".

Strangely enough, one of the cuts became a popular "disco" hit and I have the full sized single (unplayed)

For the life of me, with all the Hollywood remakes, I can't imagine why War of the Worlds has not been "REMADE".  If they used this story line it would be incredible. (Are you listening Francis Ford???)

Also another tid bit.  The synthesizer used in much of the album is called the "Thunderchild" which also became the name of the warship in the story that is sunk by the martians in one scene.

It is meant to be listened to straight through and is really an evenings worth of "ear and eyelid" Home Theater (close your eyes and listen, it is impossible not to project a mental picture of the scenes)

They even use the synthesizer to create a martian "howl" that raises the hairs on the back of my neck.

My CD is not sonically close to my Vinyl version, but a great listen still the same. :D

Seeing the movie when I was a kid  I was terrified. :bawl:  There was no stopping the Martians :!:  Fortunately for us humans our diseases and viruses were our saving grace, and stopped they're destructive invasion.  :notworthy:
Seen the movie again a few years ago and thought it was laughable.
The new Cd has some kind of copy protection. I can't  tranfer it to my computer hard drive, but was still able to make a backup copy.
I like 'Forever Autumn' remix 95 and 'The Eve of the War' remix 95 on disc 2.

Sounds like you got an "updated" (maybe remastered CD) since mine doesn't have any remix (which is the single vinyl I have)

Is it still on Columbia?  What is the product number?

The back page of the supplied booklet shows the re-mastering equipment used. It also uses SBM-High Definition 20-bit sound. It is still on Columbia and I think the product # is C2K 91389.The bar code # is 7464-91389-2.

Hey, there are actually three of us with that album.  I got it when my son (now 24) was young, and he both loved it and hated it.  Burton does a great job narrating, and his voice, combined with the music, makes for a very compelling listen.  But inevitably my son would get scared about half way through and make me turn it off.  But the next day or week he'd ask me to play it again.
