In addition to the DACs mentioned, please also consider:

Kevin Carter's RAKK dac II (same chip as CIA VDA2 but radically different approach and analog output stage)

Peter Daniel's/Audiosector NOS dac

Hagerman USB Chime

Also...Aspen/AKSA amplifiers, Greg Ball's SKA designs and Aussie NX150 amplifiers. I'm guessing these are state of the art solid state designs that will compete with the likes of Classe Audio, Halcro, Boulder, Rowland, etc...but much, much, much cheaper.

Anand.

The Doge 6 cd player. There are not many reviews of this player. Only one I see is at pacific valves and they sell it.

The hawthorne audio silver iris OB drivers!!!

Great suggestion! (Clarke Robinson, Affordable Audio jazz guy here) I've been wanting to contact Darrel for a pair of these, but I don't know if I'll have time this year. Any other AAer's want to check out a pair of killer fullrange OBs?

Another vote for USB DACs, as a subset of PC based audio.

the presonus central station dac, passive preamplifier, and headphone amplifier. made for the studio but sounds just great on consumer products. i'm more familiar with the headamp, but the preamplifier is great. it costs $500. you may have already reviewed it before, but hey, worth a shot.

i also would like to see usb dacs reviewed.

Amps: Let me also add the joule electra stargate class a triode monoblocks.  I believe they are a real sleeper and dont get much press and almost no discussion here or even on AA.  Or how bout some japanese stuff like the Mactone and accuphase,

Finally, more tannoy concentric reviews....both new and classic.  They also dont get enough love in the audio press

The mojo behind Affordable Audio is about as simplistic as one could get; bringing to light products of all different back-rounds both new and old. So long as a product has some sort of establishment and is priced within reach of most consumers - it is prime time material for this E-zene. Obviously, there are hundreds... quite possibly even thousands of options to select from. The purpose of this thread is to gather an idea of what YOU want. What interests you? What is Affordable doing right? What would you like to see more of? What do you feel is missing? What kind of products would you like to see covered in the future? This input will be used to take something great and make it even better..! I look forward to your suggestions!

Hi, I'd like to see reviewed the three kinds of anticable IC's, the standard with Nutric, with Eichman connectors, and then the silver ones. Also there speaker wire.

The vastly underrated Phase Technology speaker line, in particular the PC1.1II(which I own) and this Chinese hybrid Tube amp. The Tonewin vk2100.

Thanks

I second, third, and more the Musical Concepts products.  I just had them mod my father's old Hafler DH-101 preamp, and paired with a McCormack DNA-125, my system has never sounded better.  Fantastic preamp, and a great option for those on a limited budget (used Haflers go for $100 or less on the used market, and the upgrade is about $350).

- Hemp Acoustics speakers,
- Fostex recommended enclosures
- Audiosector Amps and dac
- DIY Paradise amps and dacs
- bottlehead amps
- etc...

Ditto on  the bottlehead amps.  I'm curious about their headphone amp & pre-amp.

Second the Van Alstine Fet Valve but not sure where you draw the line as far as price to remain "affordable".  I'd also like to see reviews on:
  • Ming-Da EL-34
  • LSA1 Monitor
  • Selah Audio Tanzanite
  • Usher X-719

Thank you for your current review of the Monarchy NM24.

I'd like to see some reviews of inexpensive (<$500) monoblock amps. The only one I know of is the Outlaw 2200.

I'd also be interested in reviews of pro-audio amps repurposed for home audio.
