Hi Frank,

Since your gear seems to have high praise and all, was just wondering what input and output/speaker wire you use. I am about to build an amplifier kit and am now getting the internals put together. Ok, guys let's keep the flame down. If you would rather PM me to avoid any issues, go ahead.

It's best to use salvaged wire from buildings burned out with large amounts of accelerant (to achieve the proper annealing temperature).

Hello, Actually I was wondering what cable or wire he does use. I don't know if he ever got in to the copper or silver thing. My interest was purely curiosity. I'm not interested in a big debate or anything of that kind. My thinking is if he uses specific cable and it sounds good to him, then it might just sound good to me too. I am interested in the internal wiring, nothing else.

My speaker wires are 14 and 16 gauge simple two conductor wire from Home Depot or similar for a few cents a foot.

My interconnect cables are a collection of whatever from over the years.  If I need new, I can get them in bulk for about 1.69 a set.

I won't get into the audiophlake debate on which wires sound best at this time.

Internal wiring?  Mostly Dearborn 20 gauge solid core, heavier for some grounds and much of the power amp wiring.

Hi Frank,

Let me get more specific. On the internal wiring of your amps, for speaker and inputs what do you use? Like I said, I am building an amp kit, and just would like your perspective as to what you guys use on the internal wiring. No debate desired, just info. Thanks.

Look back a post Ray.  For heavier wire in amplifiers, we us 18 gauge tinned stranded and some 14 gauge stuff for critical grounds.  Nothing exotic or magic.

The only place I use shielded cable is from the input jacks to phono circuits in the units with the phono option, and this is simply a few inches of Belden shielded cable. And from the input jacks to audio circuits in the power amplifiers.  Brand is not critical.  For this I use a spiral wound shield as it is easier to strip and install.

Hmm, ok, that sounds ok. I probably need about 2 and half feet of the stuff. Like with Belden, any numbers to look at? Or do I just walk in to any electronics store that will sell cable, and ask for cable with a spiral wound shield with a probably stranded center?? Cables can make a difference, but for a little more than a foot from the board to the RCA connector, I don't think I'm gonna worry about the hooplah. Thanks.

Hi Frank,

Looking in my local shop, they don't have it. I'm going between a pair of RCA jacks, to 2 inputs of a power amp. Would this stuff be ok, or do you use something different there? Thanks again for the info.
