They have a lot of different types of music, what do you listen to?

I have several, Kendra Shank and Sunny Sumter are good ones, but for some reason I don't like the Mapleshade sound that much.

Funny, I feel the exact opposite!  Hey Ralph - there are some turkeys and some fillets from Mapleshade, but it's all a matter of your personal tastes.  That being said, the recording quality and technique is without a doubt, the absolute best I have ever heard.  I own a few from their library, and while I don't necessarily care for all of it, I do enjoy how I'm totally drawn into the performance, because I really feel as though I'm right there!  I would love to hear a couple more popular or mainstream acts record there to see how they would sound, the technique is that good, someone like Pat Metheny or Gary Burton, etc.

There's a cheesy country CD from a guy name Harvey Thomas that for some bizarre reason has really grown on me, and I typically don't care for country.  I enjoy a steel guitar player/singer named Al Lee.  I have a couple of their samplers as well.  Some of the jazz artists offer tons of promise and I'm going to be moving towards some of those shortly.  You can preview most of the music on their web site - and if I'm not mistaken, if you don't care for what you've purchased, you can return it for trade or refund.  You might double check on that part, but there is some sort of guarantee ~

Happy listening!

I own a few of the Mapleshade CDs, too....and I completely agree that while some of the music might not be up my alley, the quality of the recording is so authentically impressive that you can't help but want to listen to it - particularly if you have a really good system. It's pretty amazing, and it makes me mad that more studios can't produce music that is closer to this quality in terms of the recording.

I like their recordings except when there's an active drummer. The microphone placement / room setup had way too much bleeding into the other mikes and the sound was thin. The ballads sampler is really nice though and very good demo material.

I really like the Blue Rider Trio's Harp Steel and Guts (or something like that).

I also got a Kendra Shank and Monica Worth - they are decent, but I don't listen to them much.

I like a couple other items off of the sampler (like Drink Small), so I might pick up a couple more CDs.

The Blue Rider Trio is my favorite of all of the Mapleshades that I have (~8)

I highly recommend the John Cocuzzi Quintet, "Swingin' and Burnin'."  It's a great recording with great music.

The latest catalog showed the jazz/blues/pop sampler for $7.50 and they offer a quantity discount if you find 4 or more artists that you like. I noticed they have a live recording by "The Bad Influence Band", and although I don't have this disc yet, I've seen this band live several times and would highly recommend it if you like good straight-ahead modern blues with some saxaphone.

I don't often listen to the four or five Mapleshades I own, while all my Reference Recordings CDs give me much pleasure for their naturalness. There is something etched and unrealistic about the Mapleshade sound that's a bit unpleasant to me compared, for example, to that old benchmark Proprius recording, Jazz at the Pawnshop, or to Sheffield Labs.

This is a very good one.  If you're into swing the J Street Jumpers are good.  Generally I like their traditional jazz recordings.

I just wish they would release some of the titles of LP or even SACD.  As others have mentioned they are well recorded and sound wonderful.

Wow! Not alone in feeling MS CDs are thin, forward sounding and bright. Try the sampler and make up your own mind.

Hello Everyone!!

Thanks for the input!!  But! speak of the devil!  So to speak!!  Then mapleshade catalog arrived in the mail today. From first look through. I think that they have one hell of a ad writer. They do have a little section for "audiophile recordings" and just about a little bit for everyone out there. Just no main stream recordings. All in all for under ten dollars a pop when purchasing four or more CD'S. Not a bad deal. Now all I have to do is pick them. With a little help from my friends here on this site. Will be able to do.

As always, all the best. From China.

Sincerely,
