Trigger outputs
« on: 17 Feb 2007, 12:07 pm »
I've taken delivery of my new SP2 & 9B SST this week. I've programmed the SP2 to power up the amp when pressing DVD.  Unfortunately that's as far as it goes.  Could someone please explain to me in very plain english how to link the two items.

Firstly let me say that I cannot physically do it myself so am having to rely on others.  I had two 'alleged' electricians take a look yesterday and in the end I made an excuse to get rid of them.  Can you help

The connection accepts any wire you might have laying around. A piece of speaker wire would do.

Just strip back about 1/2" of insulation and push it home into the hole for the wire once the wire clamp is loosened.

The screw (requires a small jewelers screwdriver) above each wire hole needs to be turned out counterclockwise so the wire clamp inside the wire hole is open. There's a screw and clamp for each wire.

Once the bare wire is in the hole and pushed home, tighten the screw clamps.

Note: With the SP2 you would use the terminals marked C (common) and AUX for the programmable input such as you have done with the DVD player. If you simply want the trigger there when the power is turned on the SP2 you would use the C (common) and the ON/OFF terminals.

You are a star.  Thank you.

With out wanting to sound a complete novice (Ooops, too late :duh:) where do I insert the two wires in the 9B to complete the circuit?  There are two options on the amp plus a switch for External turn on - remote/local.

Well, if I read the consistantly poorly written Bryston manual on the 9BST it would appear that you put the two wires into the two IN terminals

Put the 'External Power Up' switch on Local (not Auto).

Put the 'External Turn-On' switch on Remote (manual appears to call it External in error).

The SP2 should now control the ON/OFF cycle. If you want to ignore the SP2 control, you would move the 'External Turn-On' switch to  Local and then use the front panel switch to power up and down.
