Heavy Snow ---it's our turn.
« on: 12 Feb 2007, 01:40 pm »
There has been quite a bit of snow in the North East. About an hour from me, they have seen over 10 feet of snow in just a few days. They saw 5 feet in only a few hours. We don't even have an inch on the ground right now.
We are expecting snow tomorrow. Not 10 ft. but upwards of 15 inches is possible.

Anybody here in the belt that got the heavy stuff? I just could not imagine getting over 5 feet in a few hours.

Being a native central-New Yorker, I am both jealous for the snow they have and concerned.  Of course in the souther tier, you may escape most of it.  My folks live in the Adirondacks now and have not been walloped like my relatives in Oswego!  Here in Michigan it has been a cold spell with very little snow and the kids want to go sledding.

I have to agree. I am also a bit jealous of the snow a bit north of myself. Although I would not want 10 feet. I only hope they don't get a warm spell and all the snow melts and heads down river to us. I don't think I could handle another flood so soon.

My kids are eager to get some snow days and I think with the snow we have coming tomorrow, they will get their wish. We have only had a dusting or so this year but it has been very cold. Time to warm up the snow blower and get ready for some fun.

Bill :o
I just got the am news on TV showing the storms back east.
With some areas getting 10 feet the news was showing people clearing the roofs to stop the large snow packs from damaging the roofs of homes :(

Well all the best in the snow belt.

We west coast Canucks in Vancouver today are getting a little rain but sunny today in the afternoon and had a high yesterday of 61.

All the best of luck.

I just stepped outside to take this picture.  As you can see, things are not so white up here in the great white north.

Bill, don't be jealous - I pay $600 / month and that only incudes electricity and water.   :|
Here's a few more pictures...

Jeff,

That's Okanagan Lake with Okanagan Mountain in the background.

Bill,

Would you feel better if I told you it costs $6000 per month?  :thumb:

Thanks John.  Quite a bit larger than the 1500 acre lake we have a place on.  Unfortunately there isn't much water in Indiana.

Any Ogopogo sittings?

Jeff

Isn't Lake Michigan part of Indiana?  I haven't seen or met anyone who claims to have seen an Ogopogo.

Just barely.  Most of it is Michigan and Illinois.  We just touch it in the NW corner of the state.  People around these parts (NE Indiana) have "cottages" on the small glacial lakes.  Starting just south of our area it's all mad-made reservoirs.  My place is on a little 800 acre lake where the homes are so close you can reach out and touch the neighbors (unlike yours!!).  Fortunately it is just large enough to ski on comfortably.

...back on topic, we're actually supposed to get 10-12 inches of snow.  Nothing like NY and CO but still a lot.

What is considered normal snow fall for the NE?

I lived in Quebec for one winter and hated it.
