Has anyone tried the sig 30 with a pair of this ancient but ultra musical benchmark speakers. They usually react better to gobs of traditional power but the sig is a different animal. I have read the posts regarding the gallos but the ls35a have a wierd impendene load.
I do not own a sig 30, but I do have a RWA Teac and two pairs of LS3/5A's, a pair of Rogers 15-ohm and a pair of Spendor 11-ohm. The RWA Teac is wonderful with them. Very detailed presentation, albeit a slightly uptilted high end, but not harsh or fatiguing. Not as warm as a tube amp paired with LS3/5A's, but very musical and faster, more incisive.
What do you mean the LS3/5A's have a weird impedance load? In my experience (and I've owned one pair for over 25 years, the other over 10) they are a very easy speaker to drive, despite their low 82db efficiency. Even an 8-watt SET 300B amp drives them to levels where my condo neighbors ask me to turn them down. I have driven them with many different amps over the years, and they sound best with tube amps of modest power (remember, they are not designed to handle lots of power). Tripath amps such as RWA Teac, Sonic Impact, and Trends also pair well with LS3/5A's (though their sound is very different from tube sound). I have a hunch that Vinnie's Sig 30 would be terrific with LS3/5A's. Why don't you take advantage of the trial period?
