Steve,
Don't even think about it.
I was going to tell you about the school sound system... but I don't know now.

Actually it is a very budget system. It just happens to sound freakin' excellent. I'd like to show anybody who cares to hear it some time. I have three listenning classes each semester. That equals 3 hours of intense listening every other day.

It is a pair of Peavey's top of the line three way speakers with 15", a 6", and a 12" horn.
The amp is a Peavey 800 series. It is their most battle tested amp. Aparantly it has a clean signal compared to most amps in its class. It does use the same Mexican sand cast resisters that stock maggies use. Okay, so I did think about Black gating it.

When I saw the resistors, I figured there would be little point unless I replaced the resistors first.
The CD player is a rack mounted Marantz studio series 2 disc CD recorder.
The cables are Rapco's most reliable, battle-safe cables.
Oh yeah, there's a Furman power conditioner in there to protect the system from our many power failures and surges.
We just listened to and analyzed Meatloaf's Bat Out of Hell. Now playing: Jewel, "Adrien".

BTW: we use this sound system for rock bands

to perform in our cafeteria as well as at our football field. In October, the school had a big bonfire and they used this system for a hired rock band. My house is 2 to 3 miles away. It sounded GREAT from my back yard. Seriously, there was clear midrange and clean highs! I could even feel the thump of the bass in my chest.... okay, I lied about the bass.
