Here is a prototype for the Bybee'd digital cable.

It has one small Bybee in the middle. The entire length of the cable is completely wrapped with ERS AND a braided shield. I used the Eichmann Silver Bullets on both ends.

I will let it break in on the Cable Cooker for a few days. Then I will see if I can find anyone around here who might want to take a listen to it  :D

I know getting takers in your area will be tough, so I will gladly try it out for you.

So Wayne, is that the cable that'll be making it's way out here sometime in the future? Or is there an Ultra version chilling at Kimber?

An Ultra version may be available at some date.

I had to take apart an old Type 2 Bybee interconnect to salvage the Bybee to build this version.

I do want to try out this design with one Bybee first. If it sounds good then I will go for the Ultra Cryo version.

I'll be glad to give it a try with my Shigaraki. What kind of wire is used? Does it meet the 75 ohm requirements for coaxial digital cables?

:nono: Last I heard a couple of weeks ago that cable was scheduled to head up North a bit. But maybe after that Wayne might send it down South for 'ya if it ends up getting sent out on demos.

Though I don't know if he'd care to do that while he's still got his audition pack running around the country, assuming he'd send out the NAPALM in the first place...

Right now this particular cable is ONE prototype version of what will eventually be offered as NAPALM.

I do have some other ideas, but I do neeed to build a few cables first to actually listen to them. All the theories and tests don't mean a thing if the cable doesn't sound any better in actual use in a system playing music.

Bubba, you will get a beta version of the cable to play with. Your constant prodding me on finally convinced me to build this design.

Ahh, ok. You'd mentioned you'd had a few other ideas (other than the ones I kept bugging you about), but not what they were. So I wasn't sure if you'd incorporated them into the prototype in the pic or not. But now I know that you're still in the (very) early stages for this particular cable design.

Oh, I still think the white shrink/red tech idea sounded cool for the look. But I've never seen a cable done up entirely in red tech, so I don't really know how it'd look.

Am wondering, was there a specific reason the Bybee is dead center in the cable? Is it convienence, or because you were getting mixed reports on positive results of the in-lines as some people were getting better results on one end or the other?

Constant prodding eh? I though there was at least 6 months where I didn't annoy you with my idea for a Bybee'd digital...

Anyway, I'll stop prodding you for the while so you can play with the design.

And something tells me that if the prototype you end up sending to me for beta testing is like I've been wanting (1M Cryo'd Ultra version), that I won't want to send anything back but the $ for the cable.

I am going to play with the look of the cable as well as the materials it is made from.

I put the single Bybee in the middle mostly for ergonomics. Having the Bybee near one end sometimes makes it hard to fit in tight spaces.

And something tells me that if the prototype you end up sending to me for beta testing is like I've been wanting (1M Cryo'd Ultra version), that I won't want to send anything back but the $ for the cable.

I am not sure when the next Cryo run will be but I am sure there will be a Napalm prototype in it

My bullet-plugged Bolder digital is going to be leaving my system in a week to make way for......   8)

Inline bybee is gonna relocate to the analog out of my Joule.  All in the interest of science, of course.

Yup, the Bolder digital is going to make way.... for a Napalm.   :D   It was simmering on the cable cooker for a bit and I should get it next week (assuming Global Priority remembers the word "Priority" in its name!).

Hmmm, maybe there'll be one heading my way shortly then as well. Though I asked for a Cryo'd Napalm Ultra. I'd imagine the cryo will hold it up a bit.

The next Cryo run is at least a month away

There will be a little something for you to try out, in the package with your S-video cable, when it comes back to you next week, Bubba

Jay was of GREAT assistance in procuring the cartridge for my vinyl rig.

He gets to play with a custom Napalm as a result

I have a lingering worry that I am going to turn into the next Satfrat.   :P   When the Napalm arrives I'll have 6 bybees in my system -- 2 in the Bybee Nitro power cord feeding my power filter, 1 in the power supply of the Mensa Plus DI/O, 1 in the Napalm, and 2 in the inline bybees which I will move to the analog output of my preamp.  I'll also try the bybees at the input of my preamp.  If that goes well it will likely feed into my evil thoughts about replacing the Nitro IC I have from pre to amp with a Bybee Nitro!  Or maybe getting another pair of inline bybees.  Speaker level bybees are waiting on the upgrade of my XO.

Bybees are something of a stealth approach to audio spending... not as visible (to the SO) as component upgrades!

Satfrat,
