It has been suggested by some, that if one has an older component whose Power cord is fixed to the chassis (ie hard-wired) that modifying the unit with a new IEC input is a good idea because that would allow for a better, after market Power cord.
This mod is, of course, not a simple task.
A company in the U.K. called Russ Andrews, which specializes in Highend cables sales, suggests another approach.
It goes like this. They suggest cutting the existing power cord and leaving 3 inches of cord. They them suggest wiring an IEC connector to the cut leads, which of course would then allow for any cord to be used.
My question is: If the use of a better power cord reduces the RF/EMI noise compared to the original cheapo cord, what affect would those last 3 inches have?
