A few ways to tell you have a good system!
« on: 23 Dec 2006, 04:49 pm »
When you get up and grove to the music
When you clap after a song from a CD or DVD concert
When people knock on you door to hear the band
When people line up at you door to buy tickets
When you hear strangers clapping outside your home and cheering for an encore
When your neighbors call and say “please move the band to a different practice space”
You walk out of your home and people want your autograph

Maybe you have some more to add to the list!
 :D

when the first thing you think of doing when you get home is to turn it on
when you find it hard to turn off
when you mean to listen to a track and instead listen to the whole CD/record
when, once in a while, just for a fraction of a second you think the musician is in the room
when that happens from the next room

OK, bit of a downer but it is one week away from the anniversary of it happening to me.

How to tell you have a good system..............drum roll please.. :drums:

Your system gets stolen and you take the insurance check and buy the same thing all over again.

Last time I upgraded (changed brands).  If it happened again, I would buy the latest version of what I have.  I am fat and happy at the moment.  aa

when you think someone is banging, thumping, or walking upstairs, but turn it down and find it's not the case.

when you keep thinking you hear your cell phone go off so many times that you just turn the thing off to be sure.

when your cat gets spooked and crouches down and nervously scans between the speakers to see what it is that they're hearing but not seeing.

when you stop the music because you hear noise, buzzing, hissing in your system, only to realize it's on the recording and it's annoyingly audible.

when you try to critically listen, only to enter a dazelike state and lose sense of space and time.

when after listening, you can't believe everybody isn't obsessed with 2 channel audio, and that they need to re-evaluate their priorities ASAP.

when you find yourself buying more and more music because it's reported to be of fantastic audio quality, and not necessarily something you would have chosen for it's musical content.

when you pop in some music in the morning, and all of a sudden, being late for work doesn't seem to be a big deal anymore.

when buying that new audio component as a wedding anniversary present seems like a valid and reasonable idea.

when you loan out gear and nervously wait to get it back.

when you announce to people that you're going to listen to music as if you're going to attend an event, and it's understood that you'll be gone for a while.

when you spend too much time on AudioCircle, chasing after that last %

Cheers

Sometimes i just keep the thing in plain sight because it happens on certain tracks.

This is weird. For me, I feel like im weightless and sort of cant feel.. anything, And feel like im watching the show from sometimes right up close like im 3 feet away and the people singing are 20' tall. And thats not even alcohol induced. I cant even imagine what that would be like  :icon_twisted:

No, Not really. I like being into something not to many people are into.

Well, If i had time to bother turning on the system to listen for maybe 10 mins.

When you can easily imagine life without a TV (except in football season  :?).

Or, when you come home from RMAF after hearing good stuff (not all, but mostly) and can resist buying any new gear 'cause your own stuff sounds pretty damn good.....

Ah, but never say never

I was actually really surprised when this happened to me...but the car stereo hurts my ears on music... :o

One sure sign you have an accurate system is when you listen with your eyes closed and no sonic clues are present that tell you there are only two loudspeakers playing in front you and where they are located and there is no indication of the size or shape of your listening room. In other words the acoustic
space that was captured on the recording or the artificial space created in the studio has been superimposed on the space of your listening room. For all intents and purposes you have been either transported to the performance venue or the musicians and their instruments have been recreated in your listening room with life-size scale. It's a hoot and very compelling. You also know your system is pretty good when recordings of glass breaking cause your wife to yell at you from
upstairs inquiring about what did you break in the kitchen this time. Another indication that something very right is when you are awakened at 8:30 AM on a Saturday from an attempt to sleep in by subterranean rumblings which you attribute to a train on the tracks behind
your house only to discover when you go downstairs for your morning coffee that you wife has been watching a movie on the SCI-FI channel and in fact there was no train outside to disturb your sleep.

WEEZ, that is a good one.  Hopefully I can survive CES and still be content with what I have now.
