Help Recomend a new pair of speakers
« on: 14 Dec 2006, 08:17 pm »
Hello all ,well it looks like in early 07 I should be able to swing a new pair of speakers. I am looking for Large bookshelf speakers and can only be 9" wide ( due to the furniture they will live on) the furniture is about 20 " high and my sofa is on the taller side so a speaker about 20" tall Give or take would be great.
I will also want to use the speakers for HT so something with matching center would be great.
I know most bookshelf speakers don't go that low but I want something that could be called full range and can get down low. (my speakers now are rated to 36Hz but dont come close to that more like 60Hz)
Light wood would be great also .I will be driving them with a Denon 3805 AVR and will add an amp for 2 ch listening in the future.
I listen to Electric Blues/Jazz / Rock
Budget $1500 give or take

Thanks for your thoughts

The ACI Sapphire XL seems to fit the bill perfectly...

You might also check out Canton
I've owned several of their Ergo series, which I can say are spectacularly built and sound excellent.  The top bookshelf Ergo is the 603.

I'm not familiar with their other products, but they seem to get good press (primarily in Europe)

.....also try Totem Acoustics

Good luck!

The Odyssey Epiphany's would do a bang up job plus they are less than half your budget.

I'll second the ACI's.  It's almost as if you were looking at them when you were describing what you needed.  They're a slight stretch on the budget but not much - and they're solid down to the low 40's.  The only thing is that they definitely need an amp behind them - not a bad thing just something to consider.

How about the Selah SSR or RC3R? Both meet your size, price, and response desires.

VMPS 626

Did I see 626R? :D I have a light oak pair in great condition with mega woof, FST and stock (Solen?)cap for well under your budget.  The baffle, however, is 10.25" wide.

I'd consider the following:

- Green Mountain Audio Europa or Europa Max (retail slightly below your pricepoint)
- Aurum Cantus V2M  (retail exactly your pricepoint)
- Focus Audio FS-68SE (retail slightly above your pricepoint)

There are many excellent choices out there in your price range (as the responses have shown).  Have fun!
