DEQ
« on: 13 Nov 2006, 06:58 pm »
Hello folks,

I'm curious to know if there is a mid-line alternative between the Behringer DEQ2496 at the lower end, and the Tact or DEQX at the higher end?

I'm intrigued by the Behringer, but I'm turned-off due to the poor quality reports that I read everywhere.

I'd like to use this equipment to begin playing around with room EQ, so the investment into Tact or DEQX is too great for me at the moment.

Thanks!

Have you considered a PC?

Yes I have a PC for audio.  I'm currently using SB2 and Slim Server to stream my music to my stereo.

What did you have in mind?

You may already be aware that with the right software you can perform DRC using your PC and apply digital XO's.

For DRC this is a good starting place:

For Digital XO's check out:

http://www.thuneau.com

It works out well for me.

Hope it helps

Geoff,

Which of the products at Thuneau.com are you using? Would it be the frequency allocator?

Thanks,

Ashok

BTW, you can run INGUZ's room correction plugin inside Slimserver - for free. (well you have to buy/borrow a mic and maybe a USB mic interface)

Head over to the slimdevices forums and search for "inguz".

I have not done it because I have a DEQ and run different rooms, but it is worth reading about.

EDIT: just realized Inguz is here, so you can ask him directly.

Noticed this in use at RMAF 2006:

Looks like it $3700, ouch.

Maybe this:

quick google shows street prices $1350

Thanks for all the suggestions guys  :thumb:
The thuneau approach looks like it fits my current system very nicely, with minimal new equipment required.  It is a slightly higher learning curve than I have time for at the moment, but winter is looming...what the hell!

I'll do some reading on the Slim Devices forum and be sure to report back here if I delve into it.

Thanks again.

Hey for what it's worth I am extremely happy with my DEQ 2496.  Not only fantastic for room correction but also a great tool for RTA measurements (and more).  I regard it as one of the critical components of my setup and threfore money well spent.
