Moscode 401 - MAGIC!!!
« on: 9 Nov 2006, 12:48 am »
Just got the Moscode 401, powered it up, the moment the first 3 notes of music came out from my speaker, I know it, this is THE ONE!! The piano has more texture, the human vocal sounded very real, I have more depth, sharper image, more details, more musicality. I always thought that details and musicality is a trade-off and you can't have both, but how wrong was I, this amp has both!! I began to tap my feet, move my body with the music, and I do not find the details distracting at all, instead the details help me to immerse in the music.

One word - magic! That's it, I'm throwing in the towels, no more upgrading game for me. I'm done, for a long long time! :thumb:

Funny stuff...because we know it's not gonna happen. :) For anyone in this nutty hobby.

Barry, welcome to the Moscode club. Leave the amp on 24/7 for about five days to break it in. Then, swap in those Mullard tubes and be prepared to launch.

Barry,

Congrats on your new Moscode.  I hope you enjoy it, as it sounds like the real deal based on comments from fellow AC members.  I hope Santa is good to me this year. aa

LOL... you guys don't believe me when I said I'm throwing in my towels do you??

Maybe you're right, I have fallen in love many times with many things, but magic tends to go away with time.. :dunno:

Natureboy, what do you mean when you said "I hope Santa is good to me"?? Are you onto some project?

Barry,  glad you finally found your amp ;)  Are you using the SB digital or analog?  What IC's did you settle on?

Just as a point of reference, what did the Moscode replace? Did you compare it to other amps? I'm curious. I've noticed a few people say some good things about the amp, and I'm genuinely interested.

I am selling a BAT VK-600SE and Dodd 120 mono amps and keeping the Mosocde.

The BAT and Dodd are excellent and very good, but there is just something special about the Moscode (especially with some NOS tubes).

Tony, I'm using bolder modded SB3 digital out into my Tact 2.0S. I haven't tested the Grover IC yet, still using the Zu Gede IC. I'm using Usher rapport speaker cable right now. I'm taking my time... it's a relief when you know that the upgrading urge has disappeared, at least for the time being..

I still have the Bryston 4B-SST, I previously tried the Channel Island D200. The D200 is more musical than Bryston, but sacrificing a little bit of details. I have no doubt that Bryston measured the best among the three amps, but Moscode sound most pleasant and engaging in my setup. I believe that Bryston will work better if paired with a tube or hybrid preamp, but not a digital preamp/DAC like Tact.

Now you just need a vinyl rig, Barry  :D

Glad the Moscode is working out so well for you.
I knew you'd like some thermionic coolosity (to quote the late Dr. Harvey "Gizmo" Rosenberg) in your system.......

George, have you tried anything else other than the Mullard with good results?? I just rolled in the Mullard... and wow...what a change in sound!! I gotta thanks tvad4 for getting me these little Mullard tubes!! George Kaye told me that the Moscode that I have has already been burn-in when he prepared for RMAF.. so what I am hearing right now is as good as it can get.

I have some very expensive Siemans CCa's and Amperex 6922 PQ...the Pinch Waist on their way.

A lot more expensive than the Mullards...I hope they are worth it.

Will keep you posted.

The project is convincing my wife that I need a Moscode 401 for my system.  It will take a lot of persuassion though.  Maybe if I win the lottery or get an inheritance.  :)

Where did you guys discover this amp? RMAF? I've never heard of it before.

Then you need to hear it :thumb:

PS: I discovered this amp after reading tvad4 reviews here:
http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=28944.0

The Moscode was at RMAF 06, driving a pair of Joseph Audio Speaker, I thought the speaker sounded a little bright to my taste. Now that I have the Moscode driving the Salk HT3 in my fully-treated "super ugly" room, the sound is much more pleasing and natural to my ear.

Welcome to the Moscode club indeed Barry!  I understand your point on throwing in the towel, it's hard for me to imagine ever wanting another amp, although I am through the step where I admit I have a problem and know full well I more than likely will someday buy another amp, or amps....

The CCa are the bomb George, you'll be grinning when you slip those in.  I'm running them on the outside positions with my mullard ecc82 on the inside positions, sounds pretty darn great!

Arthurs, thanks! I have read somewhere that people confused between Siemens CCA and E88CC, how do I know if I'm getting the genuine CCA?
