Recomend a new Sub

It's curious that there is such a price difference between the UltraCube 10 and Seismic 10. There is a 20 pound weight difference, so I guess the Reference model has a more substantial enclosure and driver.

I like the looks and features of the Velodyne SPL series, too. If you could swing the SPL-1000R, I think you'd have a good chance of being pleased.

M&K's direct sales web site has a couple of subs in Cherry. They probably will not meet your definition of a small footprint though.

The V75 (cos B stock) has a 12" driver, 45 pounds, $400.
The VX1250 (cos B stock) has a 12" driver, 45 pounds, $600.

The VX1250 looks like a nice deal to me, but it's probably too big. It appears from the description that a high pass filter is built into the sub.

The Zu Mini Method has two forward firing 10 inch pro sound woofers. It is internally powered and sports a small footprint. As I recall, it is 12 inches wide by 9 deep and 24 tall. It is sold in black but can be had in any color or finish for an upcharge. It's a cute little thing whose design is reminiscent of a 1930s table radio. Ask Vinnie at Red Wine Audio how he likes his.

If your current sub is a PDR8 than an 800 or 1000 is a step in the right direction.

If you want to maximum SQ and huge output with a minimal footprint... an IB sub in a manifold is the way to go! They are a thing of beauty. Of course you'll need to test your location first and have the ability to cut a hole in the ceiling, wall or floor. If it's possible, and you have decent woodworking skills, you'll be set. All you'll need are four 15" drivers, a $300 prosound amp, a $100 Behringer DSP1124p, a couple cables, a 4' x 8' sheet of 3/4" MDF, a 4' x 8' sheet of 3/4" OSB and a grate. Tack on a circular saw and a router, some wood glue, screws and brackets and you'll be ready to go. A sub like that would cost about $1000 and outperform just about anything on the market. If you spend a little more for high end, high excursion 15's, your IB will be world class.

Check out www.InfinitelyBaffled.com. It has loads of info specific to IB subwoofers. Beyond that, AC is much better

I don't know the seller, but there's a guy on Agon selling a pair of VMPS Smallers + amp for $625 shipped in the lower 48. Seems his feedback was good. That would be a heckuva deal, IMO.

Looks like a good choice to me. The 12 would pressurize your room more (give you more feel), but the 10 should be a good step up from your PDR-8. Great sub company, plenty of features, nice looks. The PEQ will help alot.

I can't comment on the new design, but I do own a PB10-ISD that I use solely for HT applications. The SVS SB12-Plus is a sealed design so it will be extremely tight bass which is the best for music. IMO the SVS series of subs is an excellent value and the fit and finish are excellent.

Well the price should reflect those differences and that should be to your advantage. Velodyne sells the PEQ device separately now, so it could be added at anytime later. I never understood the remote level control for a sub -- you calibrate the level once and forget it -- so no real loss in my book.

Assuming the guts (driver, box, amp) are the same or very close I'd go for it.

I have a lot of recordings that the bass level is too low and a few a little high, so I REALLY like remote control sub levels.
I use an older Pre/Pro to run the sub, just so I can turn it on/off and adjust the level from the listening position.

I have SVS subs in one room and like them. But this is such a screaming deal for so much tighter bass http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=30703.0 that I would go for them in a heartbeat if I didn't already have 2 largers. Heck, I may go for them anyway so I can have push-pull just like John Casler.

Yeah, that's a monster deal! I'm pretty happy with my pair of Hsu TN-1220's but at the price he's asking I'm tempted to try them out!

He guys, for whatever it is worth, I have a sub sitting around that I don't need and will be glad to make someone a killer deal on it.

It is a 25" cube that is 1.25" thick MDF. It is a sealed box. It is cut for a pair of Adire Audio 18" Maelstrom sub-woofers. It has a Black textured surface. This was one of the test boxes built for a client that I did some design work for.

I also have a pair of the woofers.

It has never been assembled, and has no amp or amp hole in it.

I think the retail version of this sub sells in the $6,500. range. I'll take $450. plus shipping for the box and both woofers.
