For me, the volume control works for normal operation but doesn't for setting volume levls through Test feature.

Hi Thunder,

Are you using the MENU buttons under SETUP to adjust volume up and down with the test pink noise?

I changed the batteries out of the remote, and noticed the programmed chip says SP1.7, I dont know if the programmed chip is different because of the upgrade (I wouldn't think it would) but just thought I throw that out there, its very frustrating.  Everything works on my programmed MX 850 except for Volume, ugggggggh

The volume control knob is not suppose to work in Test mode. The volume is fixed in test mode and you only adjust the speaker trims within the MENU setup...

How have you programmed it?

I have a Phillips Pronto and used the .ccf file provided on the Bryston site for the SP2 (actually its an SP1.7 file, but it works fine for the SP2).
Look under technical for the SP2 on the site for Pronto Type Remote Codes file (Bryston_SP17.ccf).

It's my understanding that the MX Editor can import CCF files intended for the Philips Pronto remotes.

Anyway, I have an upgraded SP1 to SP2 and that file works for volume.

I've used both the Pronto 2000 and 3000 in the main system and the volume works fine with my SP1.7

Thanks for the tip. With the SP1.7, the volume up and down worked fine but that is obviously not the case with the SP2 - not sure why that has changed. Oh well, I will use the menu function to accomplish the task now.

Hi Eddie,

Sorry but Engineering could not come up with any obvious reasons for why only volume would not work.

Do I need to send it back in?

I sent it in, Cam found no errors and sent it back, I hooked it up, still having the same problem.  It worked when I first plugged it in, but after a few hours, it no worky no more

Curious if and how your volume issue got resolved.  In addition to the annoying pops associated with a Comcast Cable box on my SP2,  I have had ongoing issues with remote volume control.  It seems after a couple hours of use, the remote just stops working.  The red light blinks while I’m pressing the volume up or down but the volume dial does not move.  I need to physically turn the dial on the unit to change the volume.

I have same problem with my remote. It occasionally works but I just can't be bothered trying and just get up and adjust myself  :( Mine was upgrade from 1.7 to SP2 and everything else works fine.  It's a strange one.  And I usually reboot from mains switch at the back.

My issue has never been resolved...as a demo unit I have to pretend that it works by not using it.  I want to send it back in, but this is in my main room, so I need to find the right time to send it in.  This unit is also a SP1.7 to SP2 upgrade.

Yeah, there's definitely an issue with the remote on my SP2 also (upgraded from an SP1).

The processor simply stops receiving commands from the remote once in a while and the only fix is to reboot.

At one time I felt as though I had it solved, in that it only seemed to go into dead mode when I used a universal remote to supply it commands, but have since found that this isn't the real problem.

It would appear that there is some sequence of commands from my satellite remote that puts it into the funk. Unfortunately I can't reliably repeat the fault, so I don't officially complain about it.

When the fault occurs, the processor completely ignores remote commands (including no telltale LED flashing on the front panel). The processor itself works fine, just no remote.

Leaving the unit on for days and exclusively using only the SP2 remote in the room creates no fault. But then begin using other remotes in the room will eventually cause the SP2 to go remote dead. It seems other remotes are giving it a command it doesn't enjoy.

It would appear it's solvable by firmware, since the fault never occurred before upgrading to the SP2. I note that most everyone who observes a problem has had an upgrade....

Hi All,

Anyone having issues with remote not working - can you send me an email with your units serial number.

James,

I too am having this problem.  Perhaps I can add more detail as to what I see happening in my system.

My unit is also an upgrade from SP1.7 to SP2 earlier this year.

Display shows version 1.06 with DSP firmware version 406.

I have 3 digital sources connected to unit.  A Rogers 8300HD box, a Pioneer Elite DV59AVI DVD player and new computer with the latest on-board HD audio chip where I feed the toslink digital signal out to SP2.

Loss of remote control happens most often with my Rogers 8300HD digital connection whenever changing channels and with the computer when playing a DVD or HD-DVD and skipping tracks.

When the lock-up occurs there most of the input LED's on the front of SP2 go off-line and the only control on the remote that still works is the volume control and the Power on/off buttons.  The only way to clear the jam on the SP2 is to power off and on to fully reset.

Both of these 2 devices tend to drop the digital signal when changing channels or skipping tracks which makes the SP2 search for a lock each time.  On the Elite DVD player this tends not to happen.

Hope this helps.

Dante.

The solution may be a new software chip for the power supply in the processor.
Please contact Mike Pickett at Bryston.
