SonicFlare dislikes Bose.  They linked to a collection of "reviews" from another entity that hates Bose. 

I tend to agree with SonicFlare, but I am curious about this board's opinion.

Edit:  I guess I should disclose my vote.  I don't hate bose, but I don't think they're a good audio value.

I don't see why people would HATE Bose, although I know people who do. They certainly have an effective business method. Who I hate, or am at least very annoyed with, are all the people who have bought into the marketing. I die a little when people who are otherwise discerning go for Bose equipment. My father dropped a few hundred dollars on Bose noise cancelling headphones despite my many warnings against them because he read that they somehow help with tinnitus, however that's possible.

The audio business is replete with snake oil salesmen.  Witness the audiophile quality USB cables being peddled elsewhere.  Bose is bigger, slicker and more successful than most.

I do know of at least one audiophile that keeps a Bose One radio in his kitchen and is very happy with it.

I think there is a lot of jealousy in play here.
Success of Bose reflects the utter failure of the "audiophile" companies in selling the importance of good sound. Instead of cribbing about the amount of money Bose makes, the audio industry should look inwards and see what can they do to promote their industry. Bose-bashing was fun for a while, but these days, the only thing that comes to my mind reading such posts is "sour grapes".

You asked for an opinion about an article that was posted on another audio news site, and i stated mine.
Where did this whole "thread crapping" thing come into picture? Unless you mistook my response to being somehow directed at you.

Let's see....Millions of people buy Bose products to do what with? Listen to music. Isn't that the point??  So yes, Bose is a fine audio value to millions of people who want to listen to music and could give a crap about audiophilia.

eric ... good point.  There's something to be said also about the aesthetic value (WAF value) they offer.  My wife and any/all of her girlfriends like Bose.  I think that's great.  Good for Bose and the consumers that are satisfied.  Seriosuly, the niche is there and they fill it well. 

On the other hand, I do not like when a customer WANTS to enter the world of quality sound; but because of -whatever- is made to believe that he is buying a good sounding piece of equipment, when he is not.  I specifically do not like that they sued Consumer Reports for publishing what sounds to be a fair view of Bose's performance. 

Can Bose be a good value?  Sure!  Do I think they're a good audio value? (with audio value defined as the price/performance ratio for a buyer that values accurate music representation)  No.

What I hate about Bose (one of many things actually) is their advertisements I hear on the local radio station during the news.
"The Bose Wave Radio can easily replace any component system you may now have" 
and "sounds better than systems costing 5 times as much."

The marvelous thing about the internet is the freedom from much of the marketing influences.  AC is replete with "little guys" that are value oriented and I greatly appreciate them. 

OTOH without companies like Bose who invest heavily in marketing a great many would have no music or HT in their home, so they provide an entry point. 

I blame the indiscriminate consumers for not realizing (or caring about) the lack of fidelity in what they're hearing.  Some have poor hearing, others different priorities.  A few have better imagination than typical audiophiles in that they can reconstruct the true sound with fewer audible clues (isn't that what audio systems are really meant to do?)

I just had a friend over for the first time and listened to some music I know he likes. He has listened to that music on his radio , more than anything, and was surprised to hear the details/accuracy/music he was missing on the radio or his present cd system . I told him it doesn't require all I have to relize this detail and musical enjoyment . He asked about Bose, of course, and I told him they have a large reputation, but he could do better with small companies here and on Agon for value to quality spending . I think that is the most correct answer I can think of giving for people interested in starting out on this path of musical enlightenment who are considering what equipment and companies to look at.

I don't have a big problem with Bose...they serve the masses who don't want big speakers in their living rooms and who mostly play music they downloaded from iTunes or ripped to MP3, most of which is produced to sound best on car stereos anyways.  This is 95+% of the population, and while yes, they are paying for Bose's advertising and marketing (rather than the quality of materials), they tend to value function (remote control, cool looking slimline chassis, etc) over sound quality.  Chances are they are not sitting down and listening to the music they play...but the music is something they have on while they do other stuff, and they just want sound to fill the room. 

That said, it's always entertaining for me when non-audiophile friends come to visit the house and hear my big rig for the first time.  Jaws dropping is pretty common, and they stare at my room treatments asking "are those speakers too??"

While I like the wave radio, it's also obscenely expensive.  The CD version was near $1,000 last time I checked.  I'd even think about one if it was $200, but it's way overpriced.
