Pat-5 Super-Fet

Greetings,
My pre-amp drops the right channel now and then.  If I push the mono buttons in then I get sound from both sides just not in stereo.

Then if i fiddle with the selector knob it`ll come back on with a little scratchy static sound then it seems to lock in.
What can I use to clear this up and where inside ?

BTW...I sent this in to Jensens Stereo Shop in December 1982 !
Any mods currently available for this?.
I listen to vinyl and use cd`s for background only, so a good phono upgrade would possibly interest me.
Thanks,
            Steve

You probably have a dropout (dirty contacts) in one of the pushbutton switch contacts.

The suspects can be the Input-Tape switch, the EPL switch, or either of the Mono-Stereo switches.

The cure is to spray the switches from inside the chassis with a good contact cleaner (Caig Labs Deoxit D-5 recommended) and then cycle the switches 50 times or so each with the unit turned off.

Yes there is a major upgrade for your old Pat-5 chassis.  We still support it with our newest OmegaStar PAT-5 circuits.  This a complete new internal circuit set of our design, along with precision volume and balance controls.

The upgrade price is $599 and includes new phono, line, tone control, and power supply circuits, along with a new three year parts and labor warranty on everything we do. Any minor repairs will be done too at no extra cost.

This will provide you with with as nice a solid state preamplifer as they get, with outstanding functionality.

Hi Frank, Talking about Super Fet Pat 5s. I picked one up on ebay its a SL not a EC. Sounds OK but the selector switch is very hard to turn, would some contact cleaner help or is there something other I could try? Also looking at the circuit boards, they have Transcendence printed on them not Super Fet? What year would that be from? Thank  :smoke:

Mark, give me a call at 651-330-9871 for help with that old Super Fet Pat-5.  Although that model in the Pat-5 chassis never had an "SL" name.

Gosh.  I still have a Super FET PAT-5 in active use.  It's part of our HT, and is on about 8 hours a day.  Watta W-O-R-K-H-O-R-S-E!!!

I get some dropout once in a blue moon.  It's always the selector switch.
