unbelieveable...but, niiice to hear.  maybe more vinyl choices on the way.

I just found out yesterday Ben Harper has a couple releases on vinyl....under $20.00, too.   Somehow, I have less of an issue paying $15-20 for vinyl, than $10-15 for a CD...it feels like there's more 'to it' (aside from sound quality)

Well, resale is far better if you don't like it, as the new vinyl releases are already released in such low quantities.  For example, I picked up Prince's The Rainbow Children on vinyl in 2001 b/c it wasn't that much more than the CD.  Well, it sucked as an album and I filed it away.  Since I sell so much stuff on ebay, I was going through my vinyl the other day and saw this Prince album and looked up what it was going for.  HOLY Sh**- these were going from $125-$250, so I put it up on ebay and had a guy offer me $300 offline, which I took.  I sell a lot of vinyl and CD's online you really don't lose very much when you resell a vinyl LP that was purchased new recently.  Thus, I almost always buy the vinyl version of something if it's released.  Plus, I like to support the industry, though most of the big vinyl outfits aren't counted in the RIAA statistics (Music Direct, etc.), so I try to buy everything at Virgin- then my purchase counts and is accounted for by the RIAA.

The RIAA sales figures may not support the vinyl boom here in the USA, but all the Virgins and some of the Towers in NYC are dedicating a LOT more floor space to vinyl, so it keeps me happy.  :D

Hi,

There are a number of stores which only sell dj dance type music to the public but only 1 in the whole metropolitan area which sells all types of music.

The figures definately don't support that here, and I'm pretty certain they don't there, either.  Reading his statement carefully reveals that he's not exactly saying that's the case.

Still, if you like vinyl it doens't appear to be going away.

Yeah, I'm only talking about the mainstream record stores in NYC- Virgin and Tower.  The RIAA sales figures don't support the boom here like the figures in the UK.

Yeah, I'm only talking about the mainstream record stores in NYC- Virgin and Tower.  The RIAA sales figures don't support the boom here like the figures in the UK, but many of the shops that sell vinyl (e.g., music direct, acoustic sounds, or almost any of the small independent NYC shops- Mondo Kim's or Bleeker Bob's- that DJ's shop at) are definitely not counted in the RIAA statistics, though Virgin megastore does.

Hey!

Well, that is a great news for analog vinyl lover like me!  :D Man! It took 20+ years for people to realize the CD is not as good as analog vinyl when it come to sound! :o

I'm NYC and I do stop by Virgin on 14th and one on 45th street sometime. And there is a small store on Bleeker street called Rebel Rebel of which is very good also. There is another one Bleeker also but I can't remember the name. Oh! and of cause my other souce for vinyl is Music Direct.

Anyway,I hope that this will grow and more mainstream record companies would release and re-release albums on vinyl.

Thanks Micheal for the good news. Hmmm... I think I will spin some LP tonight and maybe go do some vinyl over the holiday weekend. 8)

Take care,
