Has anyone here built their own DIY power supply for their Squeezebox using the Power-One HB5-3/OVP-A power supply from Ebay?

Well, I got to tell you that this is the deal of the century and the best $2.50 that I have ever spent in my entire audio purchase.

How does it sound?  :singing:  :singing:  :singing:  :singing: * NICE *

beatdownvictim,
Go get yourself one and I guarantee that you will not regret. This is so easy to build. Even for a guy like me, who flunked out of Circuit 101 in my college year, can build one, so can you.

What did you use for the chassis?  Budbox?

It's an $10 aluminum chassis from Fry's Electronic and  I used Dremel tool to cut out the hole for the IEC.

F-100, you're now my new hero! I can't believe you can pull this thing off so remarkably

I just went to ebay to check on the power supply again, it's $27 including shipping! I don't see anyone selling for $2.50..

Ok, price aside, when I look at your DIY power supply, it seems to me still requiring at bit of work, i would have no clue how to connect all these wires...I should have attended some electrical engineering courses..

Well done!

F-100,

Did you use a fuse? Is there one in the IEC? What size?

I'm waiting for an IEC with 2A fuse to arrive in the mail any day now.

duff138,
That is the place that I got mine for $2.50 but he ran out because someone already bought out his entire inventory.

95bcwh, it's a piece of cake to build these power supply. You don't need to be any expert in EE. Just make sure not to touch the hotwire.

Last week, Cascade Surplus has about 140 units in stock but someone already bought the entire batch from them. I wouldn't be suprise if that person resell them on Ebay at higher price or build it into a PS unit and sell it for a big markup price. Hey, that is how you get rich.

There is another company that sell the same power supply for $16 shipped. Here is the link:

Latest update:  I decided to go with the panel mount fuse holder from RadioShack instead of the IEC with fuse.  I also updated pictures with the final shot of the power supply.

Edit: Removed wrong link

JDUBS - Wouldn't you be better served with a +5Vdc powersupply for this application?

Ha!  I guess I should have looked a little more closely when I bought it!   Hey, what can I say, it was late!

Something else to toss in my "corner-o-audio junk".

Now, where can I find a decent 5v supply on the cheap?   :?  :D
