Thanks.

I saw him in concert a few months before he died.  It remains one of the most memorable performances I've ever seen.  He was truly amazing.

my wife and i are huge fans.

we used to go see him at the ark in ann arbor whenever he would come through town. its a small venue, maybe 300 people.

i also saw him at hill auditorium in ann arbor, and he was with rory block, sharon isbin, and herb ellis. everyone i heard talking on the way out were talking about "that last guy" and how he was the best of the 3. i think he played ritual dance, because its there, breakfast in the field, and rickovers dream. sharon isbin was remarkable as well. i just picked up her recording of bach's complete lute suites.

hedges was truly a remarkable guitar player, and the best live performer i have ever seen, regardless of genre.

I saw him in St. Augustine about a year or 2 before his death.  It was at a small meeting room at the Art Society.  My wife and I were about 10 feet from the stage - amazing!!

I love Michael Hedges; he created an entirely new style of guitar playing that no one today can seem to recreate. The closest I've heard are Keller Williams (on his album Breathe, Keller has a song, 'Not Of This Earth,' which is a tribute to Michael where he incorporates everyone of his album titles into the lyrics) and Kaki King.

He ranks up there with Leo Kottke as one of my favorite guitar players.

I saw him opening for Richard Thompson - what a great performer. He also seemed like a genuinely nice guy.

My earliest exposure to him came from thr audiophile rags. His first recording Aerial Boundaries was amazing demo material at the time for soundstage and dynamics. I heard it through a nice Krell/Apogee Ribbon system once and was hooked.

Agreed, Hedges was a unique talent with a style that is impossible to describe.  I'm more of a Leo Kottke fan because his music  has a cool organic feel and lacks the kind've new-age type vibe I get from Hedges.  This is not a slam, I still love Hedges and listen to the one MH CD I own all the time.

Not to get too far off topic, but I've been listening to Tony Rice "Unit of Measure" and really enjoying his playing.  Tony Rice is a Bluegrass player (the best AFIC) and his playing on this record is subtle and beautiful.  Highly recommended.

I have a cassette recording from the late '80s of a live Hedges performance at Wolftrap.  I believe it was taken from a PBS Boston  over-the-air broadcast.  The sonics are amazing and he was perfoming at his peak.  By a wide margin, his best cover of All along the watchtower is in this set.  It stands up the hair on the back of my neck every time I play it.

My bud, who gave me the tape still has the entire broadcast, on Sony BetaMax!

It is so cool to have guests over and put some Michael on.  They almost always inquire "who the hell is that?".

Listen, share and enjoy.

A couple of years ago I was hot and heavy into getting concerts (vai bit torrent) of groups that permitted sharing, and I ended up with several Michael Hedges shows.  If anyone is interested in these, let me know via PM and I'll look to see what I have.

I still remember finding out when Michael Hedges died, and how stunned I was.  The only musician death that was more unexpected to me was Jimmy Spheeris, which is the ultimate tragic loss (hit by a drunk driver July 4th night while riding his motorcycle home from the studio after just completing an album).

I had no idea Hedges had passed away! Not exactly recently either. I have   Aerial Boundaries and Taproot and, to be honest, I am not crazy about either one, but I can still certainly appreciate what an amazingly talented and innovative musician he was.

Ariel Boundaries is still a SOTA recording.

I saw Michael with Leo Kottkee. It was a show where I was deeply touched.

The man could sing like a bird. When you guys saw him;did he hold a note for easily 30 seconds and all the while he was spinning around in a tight circle and of course also playing away?

One of my all time favorites and a true innovator. His music will be influencing guitarists for decades to come.

I'm also a big Michael Hedges fan.  I recently heard Dan Lavoie on Radioio Acoustic, and thought it was Michael Hedges.  He plays the harp guitar, and Hedges was one of his idols.  He's only recorded one album, but it's quite good.  Check him out...

Thanks for that link to Dan La Voie.  I checked out his site and will be ordering his CD as well as the harp guitar compilation CD.  Phenomenal music! :D

A couple of people sent me PMs about the Michael Hedges concerts I have.  I'm bogged down for the next few days (tax time is coming) but I took a quick look on the bit torrent site I use, http://www.dimeadozen.org and they have approximately 15 Micheal Hedges torrents currently up.

Registration at dimeadozen is free, and this is NOT a pirate site-they allow only trade friendly bit torrents.  Check it out.

I'll get back later to those who PM'd me as to what concerts I have.

I went to the dimeadozen.org web site, but was unable to register...the message there is:

"We are very sorry!  At the moment, there are at least 93,000 registered users at www.dimeadozen.org, the maximum allowed under DIME's current configuration.  However, free slots become available for new users daily as inactive accounts are deleted. When DIME has fewer than 93,000 registrants, new users can sign up."

At the time I visited the site, the statistics showed there were 93,002 registered users.

So we look forward at your convenience to you checking what Michael Hedges concerts you have on hand and can make available to us.

That's too bad dimeadozen is full up, I'd advise checking back frequentely, it's well worth joining.

Here's a list of the Hedges concerts I have which I clipped from my old trade list.  AUD means audience recording, SBD means its from the soundboard, covers means the files include CD case covers that someone made.  For most if not all of these I have setlists as well.  Back when I collected these I was burning on CDRs, probably a couple of shows could fit on one DVD.

And my gem, a radio broadcast of Michael Hedges and Patty Larkin (seperate and together) I have in audio format only:

Patty Larkin and Michael Hedges
   12/01/96 Boulder, CO
   (pre?) FM broadcast
   1 CD audio

04/18/84 Old Time Café, Leucadia, CA
   AUD
1 CD FLAC or 2 audio

03/16/85 Tarrytown Music Hall, Tarrytown, NV
   SBD
   1 CD SHN or audio

05/05/86 Susquehanna Room, SUNY Binghamton, Vestal, NY
   SBD
   Covers
1 CD SHN or 2 audio

03/12/88 Convocation Hall, Toronto
last three songs with Leo Kottke
   AUD
   covers
   1 CD FLAC or audio

10/16/88 Montgomery County Craft Fair, Gaithersburg, MD (early show)
   AUD
   1 CD FLAC or audio

11/01/90 Convocation Hall, Toronto
   AUD
   Covers
   1 CD FLAC or audio

??/??/96 Florida Theatre, Jacksonville, FL
   DSBD
   1 CD SHN or audio

07/05/97 High Sierra Music Festival, Bear Valley, CA
   SBD
   1 CD FLAC or audio

My organizational system is sporadically hit or miss, so I can't guarantee I can put my hands on everything.
