Diane Birch - Bible Belt

My last find at the record + cd fair.  Actually, my original cd was one of my test cds at Rocky Mountain this year.  When I got home, I couldn't believe how many scratches it received at RM.  Luckily, I found a clean replacement at the fair for only $1.  Martin also found one for a $1.  Now, that's cheap and cheerful.   :thumb:

Slush - Two by J.H., how could you go wrong?  Yeah.   :thumb: :thumb:

I've been a fan of hers since I first heard the Blake Babies on WHFS (Washington, D.C.) in the late 80's. I don't know if I have every album she's played on, but I've got to be close  8)

One of a rare handful of small group sessions, The Night Of The Purple Moon is one of bandleader Sun Ra's most accessible and enjoyable albums. Similar in scope to side one of Atlantis (Evidence, 1967), Cymbals (Evidence, 1973), New Steps (Horo, 1978) and Other Voices, Other Blues (Horo, 1978); this stripped-down studio session is a unique example of Ra's wide-ranging artistry.

Dominated by the sound of the Rocksichord (or, in Saturnian parlance, Roksichord) Ra plays the newly invented keyboard almost exclusively, adding a pair of mini-Moogs to a few solo pieces. Recorded in 1970 at Variety Recording Studio in New York with three core Arkestra members, the original quartet album is augmented with home recordings from 1964 featuring Ra alone on Wurlitzer electric piano. With the original master tapes damaged, this edition is remastered from pristine vinyl, lending the performances a warm, nostalgic quality....http://www.allaboutjazz.com/php/article.php?id=26176

Good album Paul,, I burnt this album for some leaf touring tunes in my Magnum tuesday. I see why you took it to RMAF. Maybe you should have burnt a copy and kept the original at home. Just a thought Paul. A righteous CD is a terrible thing to waste.  :thumb:

Yeah, I almost kicked myself when I saw all those scratches.  But some of the cd players at the show don't always read or play copies.  It happened a couple times this year, when I tried to play a copy of Strict Joy by the Swell Season.  It also happened last year at RM a couple of times to both Ed Cramer and me when we tried to play copies.  It worked out okay though, since I got another righteous cd for $1 at the fair.

Actually it's a nice real effect, the street sounds is way off in the distance, very natural recording.  The piano sound like a real piano in the room.

Looks like the future will be to carry a flash drive with your music selections...

Yes, as long as the street sound is not as loud as the music.

Chris - I actually brought a flash drive with me, but didn't have time to put music on it since I was taking photos and reporting on the show this year.  I'm definitely doing it next year, since there were quite a few rooms this year with laptops and music servers.

Lissie - Why You Runnin' EP

Another one of my Rocky Mountain test cds.  Plus, Lissie signed my cd after the concert last Friday.  She damaged her vocal chord a few weeks ago and had to postpone several gigs but wanted to perform in NYC, and got medical clearance a few days before the concert.  I didn't know her condition until the next day, but I was shocked she could sing that well with a strained vocal chord when I found out.  She's not that photogenic, but is stunningly beautiful in person.  And she's all natural, no makeup.

I also had Lissie in the Magnum tuesday, her Catching A Tiger album. Another good artist/album find from this thread for me.  :D

Robin - One of the concerts she postponed is the one in Boston.  If and when she reschedules, you really should hear her live, she's amazing.
