This is one of those record sleeves that speaks for itself if you know it, you’ll recognise it instantly. As far as I recall, it remains the best-selling 12” single of all time. For those of us who grew up in the 80s, the floppy disk design is unforgettable.
Interestingly, the band actually lost money on every copy sold, since the sleeve was so elaborate and expensive to produce.
The coloured bars along the edge aren’t random decoration either they form a code. If you know how to read it, it reveals the catalogue number and the track title. I’ve photographed it the right way up, so you should read it from left to right.
