Sleater-Kinney -
One Beat 2002
Never mind the
Riot Grrrl business, I thought this was one of the best releases of 2002 and one of the records to really get a handle on how many people felt in the aftermath of 9-11. The Dixie Chicks, Steve Earle and Toby Keith might have gotten the press but this album's
Far Away hit a lot closer to home for me in that respect. Sleater-Kinney made some pretty big advances as a band by the time
One Beat &
The Woods were released, both as musicians and as songwriters and I miss 'em.
Oh well, I can still listen to Wild Flag and watch Carrie Brownstein beat on a Sarah McLachlan piniata on
Portlandia...
