Understand ohms??
« on: 23 Feb 2006, 05:12 pm »
I have 4 passive subs with two drivers in each unit.  Each unit is nominally 4 ohms.

If I hooked up two in parallel what would the impedance be?

If I hooked up two in series what would the impedance be?

Impedance is the correct term is it not?

Assuming you're referring to each of the drivers in each sub being that four ohms and you're talking about series/parallel of the drivers
OR
each of the subs individually, as configured,  rated at 4ohms
NOMINALLY -
In parallel 2ohms
In series 8ohms

Your terminology is correct.

I find http://www.bcae1.com/ to be an excellent resource for learning about basic principles relevant to our hobby.

I generally want to vomit when I think of the current state of car audio, but the site contains a lot of great information.

Each individual sub is nominally 4 ohms.  If I understand you correctly then each sub would be...
Nominally- In parallel 2 ohms
              - In series 8 ohms

Thanks for the help and quick reply  :D
