SB3 Mods - What do I really need?

I got one of these when JP1 posted the link.
Got it today, with 5 pin DIN plug.  :cuss:

sigh....

Guess its time to saddle up and head to RatShack for a barrel connector to solder on.

Still cheap for an experiment, but a bit of a PITA. :flak:

Can't you send it back and pay them shipping on the right one?

Just a warning, the RatShack connector is pretty small (as far as the soldering points go) and seems pretty flimsy. I saw the same opinion posted on SlimDevices (to late for me unfortunately).

I guess I could ship it back Charlie, but that would end up almost $15 shipping to cover the round trip back here, plus wait another week.
And I don't know if they have a restocking fee or not.

Ack.

I'll have to sleep on this.

Let us know what you find out on the phone, pm314, if you would be so kind.

Yeah, I'm not very 'detail oriented' when I get hopped up to buy something online that I haven't found locally.

Regards,
DF

I'd rather pay a few extra bucks and have the right one rather than try and do an after market barrel connector. With my luck it would wind up in the round file. A.K.A the garbage can!!

I hear you talking, Charlie.

I've just made the round trip to Rat-Shack, and by the time I was done tinkering with their inappropriate parts, I would spend the same money as the shipping.
As long as they don't have a restocking fee, I guess I'll try sending this thing back and waiting another week.

Yah, like yourself (probably) I have a number of half-assed projects in the basement that I eventually could not bear to look at due to my ham-handedness.

DF

Yes I know that things can be a real hassle. Been there done that and I've never learned anything.
But all this B.S. aside the SB3 is something else!!
I Plugged Keiko Matsui into my play list this afternoon and she sure sounded great! Right now I'm listening to Chris Botti. This SB3 amazes me!!
Can't hardly wait until I get my DAC-60 with sonic craft mods from Danny at GR Research.
I'm sure that will kick it up a notch!

                           Cheers

I called Allied this morning and the rep said that there would not be a restocking fee on a replacement. So, they are going to issue an RMA and will ship out the replacement. Unfortunately they were also at a loss as to what item should be the replacement (I guess they try to figure it out from their website also  ).  We both agreed that it is probably the WM075-1950-760, so that is what she will have shipped.   I will post again once it has arrived.

Elpac has an 888 number. When I get mine and it's not right I'll call Elpac and get the right info. Then call Allied with the right numbers.

                                                   Cheers

Sorry...I didnt meant to make that look like that half-a**ed of a decision. I found this link from ELPAC's site while she was trying to leaf through her documentation. It shows a diagram of the 760 connector.

Well, I should have known by Monday but when I placed my order over the phone yesterday, Allied wrote it down but didnt enter it :o

The woman I spoke with today was certainly apologetic but not enough to give me next day air

Also she said she would e-mail me a tracking number when it shipped....nothing yet......

The Elpac  WM075-1950-760 is the right PT# for the "plug and play" solution. I received mine yesterday from Allied. The D5 appears to be the same unit, but with a 5 pin connector, which would have to be changed. The good news is the 760 is cheaper than the D5

Hey Now!

I just finally got off the phone with a fella at Allied, and my XXX-760 unit is on the way, whilst I wait for return authorization to return the d5 unit.

Thanks to all involved for getting this straightened out, and as kind as the fella was at Allied, I'd go back to them in a heartbeat.

Now, once again, "The Big Wait".
