Combined finishes ?
« on: 3 Feb 2006, 04:49 pm »
First of all, hello from merry Denmark

I'm Strongly considering the TP's aswell as a Lyngdorf TDA2200...

All of these are kinda expensive, but I'm guessing it will be equipment for decades, so maybe it's actually cheap..

One thing though, I quite like the look of the studio finish ($$$) except the frontpanel. Is it possible to combine the "black mirror" front with the rough texture studio finish?

Just have to sell that damn car, then I can go see Karsten  :D

Hi Twellmann,

Nice to meet you here :)

Well basically you can get any finish you want :) The problem is that the piano finish front panel is a time consuming bitch to do, that is why you will only find it in the premier finish... Unfortunately the work is done by people who needs more than a little rice to survive :)

I might however be able to offer you a demo set at reduced price.

Best regards,
Karsten

It was too ugly.  OK, I'm not a photographer.  I make great speakers though! ( or so I've been told).   Check out Karsten's picture below.

Hey, what is wrong with Bob's picture

Unfortunately my camera went down with an exposure meter fault during my stay in The US, so I have very limited amount of good pictures. Here is one that turned out okay.

The Timepieces has the studio finish fronts.

Best regards,
Karsten

Hey Karsten, Great picture. Do you mind if I use it on my website? By the way, who is that in the picture. Having a pretty girl in a picture never hurts

Bill,

Watch it Bud.  Karsten will kick your butt making comments like that about his woman! Just kidding.  I guess it's part his fault for marrying a 19 year old.  Ha!  Well, that's what they thought at the Italian restaurant one night during the show anyway - they wouldn't serve Margarita without her showing her passport!  They thought she looked 19.  Who knows...maybe she really is. Shame on you Karsten! :rotflmao:

I think she helps a lot -- not only to brighten the picture, but she helps put a size on the speakers.  I thought the timepieces were much smaller looking on the website.  With her in the picture, the speakers are much larger than I expected.  These speakers look very interesting and I wouldn't mind comparing them to the speakers I currently own.

Comments like what? What did I say? I'm sorry!! Hmmm.... I hope Karsten doesn't take my comments in a negative manner. If that really is Karstan's "woman" (Bob's words, not mine), they should be taken as a compliment.
Hey, I hooked up with my wife when she was only 16 and I was....... but anyway, I have known her since she was 5 years old. We have been married 12 years now!

The picture really shows the SPEAKERS very well and I don't have many good pictures of speakers in action and having person in the picture adds a lot. It could be worse, it could be Bob's mug in the picture

Chill man - you're cool! 8)  I was just razz'n ya.  And I'm sure Karsten will take that as a compliment - what else could it be? He's far more laid back and reasonable than I am - that's for sure.  Besides, He's clear over in Denmark so what's he gonna do about it?

And yes, that is his wife Margarita.  And she's NOT 19...she's 20.  Just kidding.  She's still young compared to this old fart but she is old enough to have two beautiful young kids.  Karsten is definitely a blessed man, I can assure you. And Margarita is a sweatheart of a lady if ever I've met one.  She sure gave me hell when I wasn't acting so confident at times during the show.  Upshot is that they are a wonderful couple and I couldn't be more proud to have them as associates and friends.  I'll tell ya, if the world had more folks like them we'd all be a lot better off.

Yeah,  I know Bob. I haven't met or spoken with Karsten so he doesn't know me.

I can see that in you. Patience! You have one hell of a product line and the more people see and hear your speakers, the more they will talk. That's why I want the picture, for others to see. Speaker in my showroom for them to hear..

I believe that pair of Timepiece in the picture are sitting right now at my place

Believe me, if I could convince my airlines to accomodate the Revelations on my plane I would have checked those in with me instead of the Timepieces...Not that I have anything to complain about the Timepieces (except the finish maybe). They certainly sound absolutely "grown up" than any speaker of their size have the right to...

If you haven't, you've got to hear the Timepieces driven by two pairs of the NuForce Ref. 9s. My current favorite pre is the Modwright, though I am also eagerly expecting the arrival of the explosively dynamic VSE RTP3D balanced pre.

Hi Bill,

Sure, you are welcome to use it. I can even mail it to you in better quality if you wish. As Bob said the girl in the picture is my wife Margarita.

Karsten

Hi Bica,

Yes it is your set of Timepieces on the picture. Welcome on board. I'm glad to hear that you like the Timepieces. Yes quite impressive what they can do. I was totally blown away first time I heard them, and that was even the 2.0 version.

I think if you speak real nice to Bob, he would likely make you a set in the nice finish

I have a set of Continuums in high gloss wallnut burl with piano fronts, they look really nice...

Regards,
Karsten

Thanks Karsten, I have posted the picture on my site. If you can send a better pic that would be great and I will redo it this evening.

When I get the Revelations in my store, I will have to get a new picture with my wife instead of yours   At least that's what she told me. :nono:

Those Continuum 2.5s sure do look nice and, I'm sure they sound very nice, as well.  I wonder how they sound vis-a-vis my Merlin VSM-MX, besides more low-end.

I do actually have a set of Merlin MX here and they are truly great speakers. I'd say that it is the conventional small 2 way design pretty much pushed to the limit. The Merlins are also quite revealing monitors, which you surely have discovered by now, so you do not just mate them with anything and get away with it. They do their best at low to "moderate" SPLs in a not too big room. Furthermore they would easily be approved by most females to stay in the living room, especially in the premium finish.

Comparing them to the Continuum 2.5 might be sort of unfair in the sence that these are 4 times bigger speakers but I'd say that if you like the general revealing "monitor like" nature of the Merlins you will find the SP Speakers interesting as well. You will actually get even more accurate sound with the SPs with out the feeling of it being too analytical or tireing to listen to. The big differences are in the width of the sweet spot (dispersion) and dynamic head room where the SPs are truly killers. But then again these are a lot bigger speakers so it is sort of an unfair comparison.

Karsten

Thanks for the input, Karsten.  Want to send me a pair of 2.5s from Denmark for an in-home trial?

Well, I think you better speak to Bob  :D He takes care of the waiting list for US customers. Frankly speaking I think even a set of Timepieces would impress you and they would be a lot easier to ship.
