Bryston 4B NPB VRS Bryston 4B ST Difference?
« on: 30 Jan 2006, 12:01 am »
Hello, i am the owner of a few Bryston 4B NPB power amps and would like to know the specific difference between it and the ST series.
I have had many Bryston products but do not have an ST to open up and have a look at.
There is a world of difference between the 4B pro amps i had, and the 4B NPB amps..........soft start/toroidal transformers/Balanced/unbalanced inputs and so on.
Just curious, i am a mechanic by trade and find the inner workings of things very interesting.

Thank you! :D

Anyone hear the difference between the two? Comparisons?
At this time i cannot afford the new Brystons so i have to make due with what i can afford.

Thank you.

Dear,

I don't know for sure myself but the rumors are that the (very?) old bryston's have more bass slamm and impact. The new one's are way more refinded, natrual open detailder fast en musical.

Best regards,
Bas

Hi Mike, I am sure James can answer your questions more accurately.

In your experience which one sounds the best?

Well when i had the 4B ST i remember it being quite musical and immpressive.
I never had another Bryston of earlier make at the time to compare it with.
The NPB is not bad, but a direct comparison is not possible at this time.
I like real good bass slam, and am wondering if i can be "barking up the wrong tree".
Listen to Rock/Country and no classical or Jazz which i.m.o. has no bass slam.......
Between my older Bryston 4B pro and the NRB the background is definitly "blacker" and the amp itself seems quieter and has the soft start....if thats what it is called.
I.M.O. neutral which alot of people talk about is bland, personally i like the bass to hit you in the chest.
With all the Neutral this and that about 3/4s of your cd/record collection sounds like crap.
Lets get the woofers moving again!!
