Power Requirements for Multiple Bryston Amps
« on: 20 Jan 2006, 07:23 am »
I have 3 Bryston 7B ST amps and 2 7B NRB amps. My question is can I power all of these on one 20A ckt or should I put 2 on one 20A ckt and 3 on the other?

Also if I am rack mounting the amps is 2 rack spaces enough between the amps in a rack?

A 7B amp has the potential to draw 1980 watts when pushing 900w into a 4 ohm load. I'm not an engineer, but it sounds like you'd want to put each amp on its own circuit (1980 VA / 120V = 16.5 A).  A friend of mine has a pair of 7B ST monoblocks and has each amp on its own 20A circuit.   I have a 4B and a 9B and each amp is going on its own 15A circuit.

Definitely, I think you'll have problems if you try to put all the amps on a single 20A circuit.

Thanks Jason I see that I need to run a few more circuits into the theater than I was planning.

Hi All,

Remember that the maximum amperage draw is at FULL power into very low impedances. I generally find one 15 amp circuit per Pair of 7B's or one 14B works very well under real-world conditions.

That's true.

I just installed a 240 volt/60Hz line in my theater room this week and I am using the 60 amp version of the Torus as we speak.

I would be very interested in your impressions of the difference the Tours made in the sound
