Does anyone have these loudspeakers? Heard them long enough to make a comment?

IRD is looking for a new set of loudspeakers (US$3-4K)  for one of our demo rooms but, have no access to Joseph Audio loudspeakers here in Thailand.

We are looking for floorstanders than get somewhere near 30 Hz, something to demo our preamps with.

All comments or ideas welcomed  :D

I heard a pair of these in Singapore, hooked up to a pair of very large VTL tube monoblock amps.  Overall sound was very very enjoyable and natural.  My listening session was about an hour long.  I wish I could tell you more about the rest of the equipment.  Take this as a small data point.

Thanks Jay,

I talked with Joseph Audio and the do have some MK1s in Singapore but, not MK2s. They say the guy in Singapore could change out the XO etc... and convert them but, I'd rather order exactly what I want and wait.

Still mulling it over...

I simply am not happy with loudspeakers that don't hit the very low 30s and extent at least to 18-20KHz. That rules out all stand mounts.

My active system will be different, stand mounts and subwoofers but... that's another story and another system.

Our "Infinite Slope" crossover at 120 dB per octave is steep enough to realize the benefits of an truly Infinite Slope if one could be built. (Such a feat is theoretically impossible!)

Nice speakers, although the above seemed a bit peculiar to me.  Shouldn't they call it "Almost Infinite Slope Crossover" or "120db per octave slope crossover".  Kinda like calling a turntable with a great bearing and heavy platter a "Perpetual Motion Machine".  Ahh, but I kid the Joseph Audio Website...

Hi nathanm,

Yes, the 120dB slope is a bit different. The engineer that designed it also designed a nice tuner for McIntosh, he says it helps keep the metal mid-bass drivers from ringing.

The stiff metal cones can do good things especially if the ringing has been tamed. I think this a key feature of these speakers.

JA has been making loudspeakers for 15 years but, just seemed to start getting things right 3-4 years ago.

From all I’ve heard the RM25si MK2 is a very good loudspeaker. I also like the fact that it is 8 ohms with a minimum impedance dip of only 6 ohms. Plus, it has good bass to 32 Hz!

Sure wish I could audition a pair here in Thailand or Singapore

Curt, how much more is the RM33si?  From what I hear, its a significant step up from the 25.  It uses a better midrange and tweeter.

But the cost difference may be hard to justify.

Ouch, I'll retract that statement.  The 33si is $4000USD more than the 25!!!

Ravi,

Yes, most people feel the performance difference is not worth $4K. At that price point I may choose to shop around a bit more.

I'm not sure I would like the 33s side firing bass and all you gain in the bass response is 4Hz (28Hz).

I also hear the 25s may image better but I'm not sure.

Rocket,

Thanks for the input but, I want to stay with a known brand in mass production. This tends to be safest in both the short and long run.

A company name that my customers will recognize. This way the loudspeakers can more easily be taken out of the equation when they audition our electronic components.

Resale is much better also with a known brand if/when we decide to change loudspeakers in the future  :D
