HTPC to SP1.7
« on: 27 Oct 2005, 01:02 pm »
Hi,

While I normally use a scaler for my Plasma and Projector I've recently built a HTPC.

The results are quite good except the SP1.7 won't pick up the S/PDIF digital out signal from the sound card.  I'm using a digital coax cable obviously with a mono 3.5mm plug adaptor.

I have locked the Aux coax connector to digital and set the opt1 and opt2 to none.  The S/PDIF setting on the soundcard is also set to output digital only.

It works with an old Denon receiver so I can't work out what I've missed with the SP1.7.

I haven’t tried the optical connectors as I’ve lost my TOS cables.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Gaz

Works fine here.

However, I am not sure what a mono 3.5mm plug adaptor is?

I am using a variety of soundcards which have standard coax outputs and the SP1 is very forgiving (consumer, pro, data, non data) in latching onto an incoming digitial signal.

I have the best interoperability with Windows system sounds, an ASIO media player, and TheaterTek using an old M-audio DIO24/96. The ESI-Pro Juli@ also works fine.

In digital mode I use pass through which will switch automatically to the PCM output rate 44.1/96 or to DD/DTS.

Given the current feature set of the SP1.7 my final setup is a bit more complicated with a dejitter box and a digital equalizer looped into the digital chain.

Cheers

Hi, please ask him if the green digital light is on, or if it's red.  And what is showing on the display - does it say "analog" or "detecting" or something else.

The red light is on and the display is showing detecting.  As Thomas mentioned I have the mode set to 'pass through'

My first thought was that the sound card S/PDIF connector is in analog mode but the Denon is picking up a digital signal.

Sorry I didn't phrase that very clearly.  I'm using Nordost Moonglo II RCA to RCA digital cable with a RCA to 3.5mm Plug adaptor to fit the soundcard.

I will fit a Lynx card at some stage but at present it's just a Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Elite Pro.

Thanks for helping.

Thomas,

Could you tell me what dejitter box you are using as I'd like to test this out on my system?

Regards

Works OK with the Motherboard built in s/pdif connection so it looks like an issue with the sound card.

Thanks to everyone that helped.

I am using a pretty dated Monarchy Audio DIP 24/96 . I also have a 2 channel digital equalizer looped-in between my PC and the DIP.

I guess the equalizer will be gone soon but  I am still patiently waiting for an effective dejitter mechanism ....

Cheers
