http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/wackii2004/album?.dir=2afe&.src=ph&store=&prodid=&.done=http%3a//pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph//my_photos

These speakers sound really clean, smooth, can crank loud with no distortion, amazin sound stage... Can't wait till it's all break-in.

I need help on the finish though.  I'm thinking wood veneer (oak w/ red dye?)  Give me some suggestions.  I have about $60 to spend.

Thanks.

Go to Formwood.com
http://www.formwood.com/inv/browse.htm
Clearance page.
They had the prices on and have removed them.
But call them and ask for the Red Oak on the clearance page.
Red Oak, Flat Cut on 20 Mil 8x4
I have picked up 20 sheets over the last few months $33.00 sheet
That is cheap for 20mil sheet.
Even with shipping and contact cement you will be under $60.00

I would pick up a few sheets at that price.

Danny got some veneer for is new Open Baffle when I pointed him to the site.

Last steal I got from the sale. And I say steal as it was just to good
4X10 sheet of Tigerwood 10mil for $14.00
I picked up 2 sheets and never used it before.
Once I got it I should have ordered all 12 sheets

Anyway have a look.Like i said the prices were on line they have removed them.

Al, Thanks for the info.  I did call the place.  The lady there give me a price of $109.97 for the red oak flat cut veneer.  I did verify that it's for the overtock/clearance inventory.  Then I told her that you were able to get it for $33 a sheet a few months ago.  She went in and check with the manager.  She came back with the price $59.99 and not lower.  Imagine from $109.97 to 59.99 in like a min.  Anyway, I didn't get it.  I don't know how can you get those veneers for so low.  I'd love to get my hands on a couple sheets.  Thanks for info.  Anyone else knows anywhere that I can get veneer for cheap?  If it helps, I live in Los Angeles, California.  Local stores would be nice, that way I can see the products.  Thanks.

Well you just confirmed what I was told.
They Formwood are now playing games with people.
Yes I have my reciept in front of me I had just ordered another 6 sheets of the red oak for $33.00 sheet as well as the figured cherry for $52.00.
I only got these prices after I was told by the sales person the prices  were $110.00 for the Oak and $111.00 for the Cherry.

Well I made comment of previous orders and she gave me the same prices. As I had ordered before.

They are not using the clearance page as a sale page just a bait page.

I retract my comments about the sale veneer as they are just playing a pricing game.

As well I am going to contact formwood and send this link as well.
To make note who to loose customers.
They just did!

Thanks for the link.  I've checked out some of the veneers there.  It seemed like most of the veneer is either too short or too thin.  Do I have to connect them?  I was able to contact the local store here.  1 sheet oak veneer 10mil for $45.  I will drop by there in the weekend and check it out.

Btw,  your speakers are beautiful.  I hope I can come close to that  :D

I got rosewood veneer for my A/V-3s from a store in the L.A. area.  It was near El Monte as I recall.  I'm not sure if they're still there anymore, but they had nice stuff at reasonable prices.  Best of all you could pick out the sheet you wanted.  One 4' X 8' sheet was plenty for the A/V-3s.  If I can find the info on it I'll post it here.

Haven't found my old place yet, but here's one in Huntington park you might try: http://www.glveneer.com/

For an online reseller, I've had good luck with www.woodnshop.com.

I think the following might be the place I went to a few years ago.  The location looks right, but they may have changed their name.  You might give them a call and see what they have.

Panelworks
Address:   11830 Wakeman St, Santa Fe Springs, CA 90670

How about $29.28 for a 4' x 8' sheet of premium flat-cut red oak?:

Hank,  I called Tapeease for the red oak, but they don't have it.  They have the Maple FC for $38 but the shipping and handling will cost me $24 for the first time order.  I guess I will have to check for some local shops.

Thanks all for the info.

You don't know how much it pained Hank to mention something other than rosewood.

I wish I can afford rosewood.  They are beautiful.  It's just that my wallet is empty.  And for the first time veneering, I don't want to mess up the rosewood.  It's a crime  :)

Yes, I really had to strain to mention "oak".  It's hard to believe they're out of stock on oak veneer - I'd think they sell lots of it.  Oh well.
Have you considered these melamines from P.E.?:

I've just ordered the red oak 10mil paper backed for $33.  Total is $35.XX taxed.  I'll pick it up tomorrow.  Now, that I have the veneer.  Should I go contact cement or iron-on?  If it's you, what method would you do for the first timer at veneer?

Thanks.

BTW, where are you getting the veneer?

Personally, I think the iron-on method is easier for the first time.  You just need to make sure the edges are secure so they don't come up when you edge trim.  The beauty is that even if they do come up a little, all you have to do is re-iron them.

How difficult is it to veneer cabinets that have had the corners rounded off??

I got the veneer.  It looks pretty nice.  I'm cutting it now.  I can't wait to have it on on my speakers.

Mike, I got the veneer at:

Allied Veneer Company
4901 Fruitland Ave
Los Angeles, CA 90058

It's off the 710 on Atlantic.

I've just purchased the titebond II wood glue.  Is it good for iron-on method?  Or there is a specific wood glue that I have to use?  Thanks all.

Al,
