In continuance of Ian's (bluesky) reply in the thread 'Dampening of GK-1 tubes', it might be fun to know how widespread the AKSA fever is

And how many are we? The latter question is probably best replied to by Hugh (if you have the time, Hugh, we know you're extremely busy).

Cheers to all,

Jens

Jens,

I'll speak to my long suffering wife.  She may be willing to draw up a map.

Cheers,

Hugh

Jens, Hugh,

Have I created a monster with an off the cuff remark?  :(

As I suggested it I feel responsible for any work that this might entail.  I am only too willing to assist in this.  Mind you I have no idea how this might be done with me living in Brisbane.  However if I can be of help and lift the burden off Hugh's wife at all, get in touch and I shall do it.

Being a teacher aide, I am on holidays at the moment and have some time to do it, just let me know.

We might all be surprised at how far the Aksa experience has travelled around the world. :)

Cheers,

Ian

Folks,

This is a damn good idea, and I like it.  I've spoken in dulcet tones to my wife, and she has agreed to do it.  Ian (bluesky) has very kindly offered to put the numbers onto a map, which should probably be a mercator projection so it's flat, suitable for presentation on a screen or paper.

It will show numbers of AKSAs, both 55W and 100W (no distinction will be drawn for clarity).  I will not show TLPs or GK-1s, at least not yet, but the digital format will be easy to update and highly mobile, great for marketing.

I find sales are steady, and a lot of business is repeat from existing customers.  For the business to grow, I really need a growing supply of fresh customers.  Can you please chat to your friends, let 'em know?  I'm confident you all do anyway, but word of mouth is definitely the best way to sell any product, beats advertizing hands down.  However, I am thinking of putting this into AudioXpress (thanks Paul!):

Aksonic owners

How about including Aksonic owners on the map ? I'd be interested to see if there are any other owners in Southern England.
My pair are at the 'almost ready to wire up' stage (the first coat of shellac is drying as I write this).
I will post my impressions as soon as they are up and running, but don't hold your breath - it's taken me three months to get this far.....

Stevie, Ian, Hugh

It would seem that Aspen is becoming more and more of a family business  :D

It is commendable that Hugh's wife has agreed to put Aspen products "on the map" - literally speaking - and equally commendable that Ian has offered to help. Just sorry that I won't be able to pitch in, but with Denmark about as far  away from Australia as is possible on planet Earth, it's a wee bit tricky.

Hugh, perhaps you could have your teenage daughters do something, too (PCB soldering?) - so they won't have time to tamper with your PC

Cheers,

Jens

hello,

i think it is an excellent way to help hugh with marketing is for aksaphiles to demonstrate the amps to potential customers.  i'm sure that many happy customers have already done this, i remember mulling over whether i should buy an aksa.  it would have been great to listen to an aksa before i took my "leap of faith" and just went for it.

it seems like a good idea to have a map of aksaphiles.  just as long as we don't load up hugh with extra work, i'm still hanging out for the aksa dac.

Yes, this is an excellent tool. Other audio manufacturers are using it.
Red Wine Audio is one of them if i am not mistaken.

This can provide a great perspective of "Aksaphiles - Where are we ?"

Nick.

Glen, Nick,

To do this needs a database, I have one ready (courtesy of Ben), and to make it really flexible for me as well I need all customer details so I can tell at a glance.  Perhaps scanning all the customer sheets would be the go?

I've asked Sri to start on the data entry and she seems quite happy with the idea!  (it's a big task, there's a whole drawer of a filing cabinet, could take a two or three weeks).

Nick, the demographic is interesting.  Almost without exception, the AKSA has attracted well educated people (most with degrees), 25 years upwards - eldest would be 79 now - and people who are technically astute and experienced for the most part.  I can't be sure, but I'm fairly confident all enjoy good, well paid employment, and have an understanding of what it takes to develop a product.  It is very rare that my responses are met with uncomprehending reactions;  most know exactly what I'm on about.

In any event, this request does come at a difficult time, because the end of the FY is almost upon us, but I think I'd do it without the map, Glen.

Cheers,

Hugh

Hmmmmmm, thanks guys, I will confer with Ben, who is about 5000% more computer literate than I am, on Friday over breakfast!

(Incidentally, we are like a couple of kids with new toys - recently he bought a 2001 MX5, his dream car, and I replaced my 2002 Honda CB900F with a ZRX1200R Kawasaki with only 13,000 kms!  Life's a breeze....)

Hugh

I'm 25, and have a degree in computer systems engineering.  When i first heard about the AKSA I was still in 2nd year or so, that was aaages ago!  It had me interested, but I didn't act on it for various reasons at the time.  Certainly when I revisited the idea of building my own amplification recently it jumped to the head of the queue pretty quickly, and I'm glad I made it!

Hi Hugh

From my distant memory I did a hard copy map with lots of dots on it throughout the "known world" and sent it off to Hughmany moons ago.  In some countries it became impossible to have individual dots for owners (such as the USA) because the dots ended up joining together because there were simply so many people in nearby locations, so that the Eastern seaboard for instance, apeared to be one big splash of Aksaphiles.

Gert Pedersen has done this very same thing but his Michell upgrade kits are not produced in the nearly same numbers as Hugh kits.  For what its worth, the red dot located in far north Queensland is actually me!  (I actually live in Brisbane but Australia has such huge distances between cities).   But, to use one of Hugh's sayings......close enough for government work!
