The results of the poll showed a 50/50 split for sat/sun so I'll break the tie and say let's do it on Sat. from 1 to 4 or 5.
The location is at Advanced Home Theater in Plano. The address is 3209 Premier, Ste 112, Plano, 75075.  Premier is the first light west of 75 on Parker road, just past Plano Honda and Target.  It's in a strip on the SW corner. You can't miss it, just look for the sign on the front of the building.

Please post if you can make it and equipment you are bringing.

See you then!!

I'll be there with the Focus speakers that Phil sent.

I can't make it on Saturday.

I guess I'll need to find someone to transport the Salk HT1.

I'm in!

I can bring my BPT 3.5 Sig again if there is any need.

Is the store a "munchie free zone"?  If not, do you want any contributions of that type?

Thanks!

Ken are you in Fort Worth yet, or still in Dallas?  If you are in Fort Worth, I can probably arrange a pickup if you'd like.  Otherwise, we might have to find another local to help out with the delivery.

Munchies are fine, we'll just keep them off the equipment.  ;)
Lets see how many are gonna make it and then we can figure out what munchies are preferable.

Yep, me and Scott are kind of the part timers.  We both have full time jobs but do the HT thing on the side to help fund the habit.

I am planning to attend and can bring the ONIX Ref 1's if there is interest.  They might be fun to compare with the Salk and Focus.

Is this still the proposed setup?

Room 1 (larger):
- Von Schweikert VR4 Srs (http://www.vonschweikert.com/)
- Parasound Halo JC-1's
- Halcro SSP-100 pre/pro
- Esoteric DVD player

Room 1 (smaller):
- Von Schweikert VR-2s
- DK Design VS.1 integrated amp
- Cary CD player

Swapping into these rooms will be the Salk HT1 monitors (http://www.salksound.com/gallery-se.html) and the Focus Audio FS688 monitors (http://www.soundstage.com/revequip/focusaudio_fs688.htm).

Go ahead and bring the Onix Ref's.  We have a pair of VSA VR-1's and some Monitor Audio's as well.  Plenty of bookshelf speakers to compare!

Also, just to clarify, all the equipment listed before is in the same room, just 2 different set-ups, one on the front wall and one on a side wall.
There is a smaller room that we could move the rack into that has the DKDesign and Cary CD player if need be.

I updated my post with the pics uploaded to audiocircle...much better.  I'm glad I didn't have to resize them manually myself :)

Thanks to all for pulling the event together.  I really enjoyed hearing the new gear and having my Onix Ref 1 available as a reference.

We rotated through a great set of monitor speakers: Focus, VR, Salk, Onix and then hear the VR SRs.  The electronics were the DK integrated amp w/tube line staga and Cary CDP.

Thanks to Brian71 for opening up the store (and to the absent owners for allowing it)!

Compared to the last jam, we had a much smaller group of 6 people this time, and with a more limited focus on 4 different monitor speakers.  (We did treat ourselves to a quick listen to the very impressive sounding $8000 Von Schweikert VR4 Sr at the end, however!)

Since we were all having a hard time remembering the relevant stats of each speaker, I did some quick research and listed the data below.  Feel free to correct me if I got something wrong.

Focus Audio FS688
45Hz to 25 kHz, +/- 3dB
85 dB/1W/1m into 8 Ohms nominal
1-1/8" Scanspeak Revlator tweeter
5-1/2" Nomex/Kevlar Hexacone woofer
$3190 MSRP (dealer price may vary)

Von Schweikert VR1
40Hz to 25 kHz, +/-3dB (quoted in room)
89 dB/1W/1m into 8 Ohms nominal
1" composite silk dome VSA tweeter
6.5" resin impregnated mica/cellulose composite woofer
$1000 MSRP (dealer price may vary)

Salk HT1
45Hz to 25KHz, +/- 1.5 dB
88 dB/2.83v/1M into 8 ohms nominal
Aurum Cantus G2 aluminum ribbon tweeter
7" Seas W18EX magnesium woofer
$2200 manufacturer direct price (upgrades available at extra cost)

AV123 Onix Reference 1
42 Hz to 35 kHz, +/- 3 dB
88 dB unspecified into 4 Ohms nominal
Vifa XT Concentric Ring Radiator
Atohm 5.25" mid-bass woofer
$1500 manufacturer direct price (subject to the occasional sale)

We spent quite a bit of time with each of the speakers, with the most attention paid to the Focus, Onix and Salk.  All four monitors were fed a steady diet from three personal demo CDs that covered quite a bit of musical ground.  I'll leave detailed impressions for a time when my eyelids are losing their battle with gravity, but suffice it to say that we heard some really nice gear and had a lot of fun.  Thanks again to Brian for offering to host!
