DVD player such as Oppo DV971 cost $199 and it currently has 5.1 channels output.  Rumor is that they're are working on 8 channels output.
http://www.extremephono.com/Oppo_DV971.htm. Eventually some DVD player will support Dolby PLIIx.  At bundle price of a few hundred $ for the AVP 16, you can afford to throw it away after 2 years and buy the next version that support it if the DVD players don't beat us to it

Ok guys, the photo is available. Volume shipment will begin June 26.
Some dealers and distributors will be getting units for demo at the end of May. We'll hold the 1st production of 200 units at the factory until dealers have completed their evaluation.

A lot of time have been spent testing and adjusting the look and feel. The production remote control is all aluminium and anodized with the same color as the face plate :)

no offense, but it seems that this model is a season too late. wouldnt it make more sense to add hdmi switching and more balanced output options?

Jason - your saying no xlr connectors on the avp-16 but on the website your picture seems to show 4 of them on it?
Just wondering what i'm looking at?
Cheers

This is a $995 AVP, not a $3K to $5K AVP :).  Most people do not need HDMI switch.

There are 4 XLR output (it is not true balance. Few AVPs have true balance out).
We'll update the spec very shortly.

I completely disagree. With HDDVD out now, and BD on the way, the importance of HDMI, even if not 1.3 is still there. Have you seen the consumer reviews on the D2? It seems to be the most hassle free way to play the new formats because it accepts audio and video through the one cable.

To come in at this price range, even without a scaler, and offer that functionality at this time would guarranty that you wouldnt keep the product in your inventory.

The AVP is positioned as a decoder with non digital video support.

Recommended and logical configurations that work with the AVP16:

(1)  HDMI or DVI DVD Player directly connected to the video display,  S/PDIF from DVD connected to AVP-16.  Multiple HD non-digital (1080i YUV) connected and switched through AVP-16

(2)  HDMI sources connects into HDMI upscaler/switcher such as DVDO, audio decoding by AVP16.

Even with HD DVD, the audio decoding through S/PDIF is still supported, and DVD-Audio / SACD supported via the 7.1 analog input.

Both configurations offer the most bang for the bucks.  For highest performance HDMI switching, obviously product like DVDO iScan VP30 which takes in a native 480i HDMI stream is more appropriate.

Nuforce is not a video company, and we are not in prepared to offer cutting (bleeding...) edge video processing function, but we would add HDMI when it HDMI 1.3 becomes more mature.  Video companies like DVDO does a much better job and the combined cost of state-of-the-art HDMI upscaler/switcher + Nuforce AVP costs less than any other competing solutions out there.

We're still working on the manuals. A limited number of units will be shipped to dealers for evaluation next week. We delayed shipping for another week to change the fonts on the remote control :).
