Bryston 7B sst mono block running hot
« on: 19 Nov 2025, 04:56 pm »
Hi everyone, new to this site and hoping for some help with one of my mono block amps. I was listening last night at a fairly high volume... (dB was 93) and when going to power off my system I noticed that one of my amplifiers was very hot to the touch, I took a heat gun and it showed 137 degrees on the top surface. Is this something normal? or something to be concerned with. Thanks in advance!

The Bryston amps can get quite hot to the touch, I don't think 137 degrees is too hot.    I would be more concerned about one amp being hot while the other is not.  Bias might be out on one of them.

I have a 2B-LP that if left one not playing for one day, the left channel is definetly warmer than the other.  Will have to get that looked at some day.

I have the stereo version of your 7B's (the 14B SST2). Yes it will get warm if pushed, and hot to the touch. How much ventilation do the 7B's  have? As a reference my 14B is installed in a cabinet with a little bit of natural convection. There is also a large air tight wood stove in the same room, so not ideal conditions.  Having said that, it has never thermally shut down,  even when pushing a pair of PMC MB2's at decent volume for a couple of hours. I typically push it a bit  when i am alone in the house cooking in the adjacent kitchen. (You would swear Art Pepper is playing live in the family room)   All Bryston amps are over built with thermal protection, so I doubt you have anything to worry about.

How Hot,if you can barely touch your amp/amps  then your bias needs to be recalibrated.
Years ago I had the 28s which were brand new and still have them today.
They got so hot within a half hour I could not touch the top.
Dealer couldn’t figure it out.

Finally Bryston got involved and basically you cannot set the bias and then put the cover back on  right away as it does have  to settle for quite some time and probably adjust again ect.

Anyway my audio dealer did not know that and it got so FUP that Mr.Russell was going to fly out here to Alberta to solve the problem.
Anyway after the bias adjustment they are warm normally and have been superb ever since and that’s……….."years ago.
Mutha F  has it been almost 20 yrs………2006 I believe I had bought them sum beach.
No way they should be screaming hot or so hot you can’t touch the cover……
