Inductor placement
« on: 19 Jan 2025, 03:34 pm »

First post. My apologies for having been a lurker for a long time. I recently tore down a pair of speakers i put together 35 years ago and removed these crossovers. They were made for me by a company that shall remain nameless, and i intend to reuse them. After reading Dannys technical inductor page, i see the big nono inductor placement errors. Im thinking about just turning the 2nd and 4th coils sideways to obtain placement #7 in Dannys picture. What do you think ?

I've usually followed charts like these.  It looks like whoever built your crossover did not spend any time researching Inductor Placement.

Agreed. I read an old adage somewhere If you can look through the hole of a coil and not see another coil, then you are ok
The builder must have subscribed to this theory.
So, i should move a couple of them ?

Yep, there are videos on you tube that show how much orientation can change the measured inductance.  That chart is accurate.

I'd move the top one and the 3.0 mH one using the orientation of #6 on the chart.
