To wool or not to wool
« on: 3 Jan 2025, 03:50 am »
As I'm a newbie to the site I still can't search the treads yet unfortunately, so sorry if this has already been talked about.

About three weeks ago I finished building a pair of X-Statix's, and after about 150hrs they're starting to sound amazing.

My question is, although I've lined the inside with NoRes, would the cabinets benifit from addition sheeps wool being inserted?

Cheers
Barry

After lining them with No Rez I added some loose fiberglass insulation.

That's also what used when building up my Encores after affixing the NoRes.

Just a tip: if you use fiberglass insulation, be sure to wear some latex or vinyl disposable gloves so you don't get the glass fibers from the fiberglass into your skin.

Or lungs.

Exactly right, good point. Good to wear a mask while adding it, as well. :thumb:

Awesome, thanks Danny. I'll give it a try, however it will be with real sheeps wool not fiberglass.

Appreciate the concern, I'm going to be using real sheeps wool. Something I have access to in abundance  :D

I have had speakers using sheep's wool. Seemed to work fine. Just keep it fluffy and not over stuffed of course. I would prefer that to fibreglass any day.

Interesting, I don't think my Encores or LS9'S have any fiberglass/wool. Sounds like that is recommended.

I used fiberglass per Danny's recommendation when assembling my Encores, just for reference.

Cheers.

I have the old AV123 LS9s. At some point they will need some attention and I will do the no rez install, is it recommended that poly fill or fiberglass also be installed in this model?
