Bye Bye Krell, and hello 2x Ampzilla 2000 Monos.

Well, i have made up my mind and put the Krell up for sale. The Ampzilla i had first (stereo) was passed through many hands and had some problems. Today i got two new 2000 Monos and a Son of Ampzilla. After letting him warm up for one hr i was absolutly amazed. These are incredible amps, and match the VMPS RM30 wonderfull. I will buy the 2000 Monos.

The Ampzilla's (despite the look) are pretty darn good. They just make music, and make your feet tap. I actually think they look pretty good. Here is a pick while demoing.

BTW who cares what other people think about the looks. As long as you are happy that is all that matters.

Congrats

You know, I don't claim to be a cool dude  , but as I have mentioned earlier, I have grown to like the look.

In fact almost everything else looks kinda "plain jane".

I mean just look at all the other "blah" silver stuff you have there and look at the "powerful battleship" look of the AMPzillas.

I don't know.  I just think they're cool.

Also the reflection of the flash off the emblem is spiffy too? 8)

Makes me want to get a couple more.

Yeah, they are pretty cool looking once you see them a bit longer. But you need to give the Ampzilla 1 hr warm up time to really shine.

Yeah i just noticed that my use of electricity is soooo much less with 2 monos than with one krell.

-Flo

PS: The only advanage that the Krell has now, is that it does not care what load it has to drive. The monos blew 2 fuses in a matter of seconds on the Scintilla

I doubt if the Krell is more stable than the A2K.  James claims it will run a 1/2 ohm load (but won't like it)

You might want to e-mail or call him and ask why he thinks the fuses popped.

Well i can guarantee that the Krell can handle load a lot better. The problem is that the Ampzilla is internally bridged and therefore operates at half the impedance thats comming in. At least that what the importer tells me. So if the impedance is 4ohm the A2K sees 2 ohm....my Scintillas are 0.6ohm to 1ohm which dropes it down to 0.3 to .5 ohm....which is too much for him. I already wrote James, and he said that they might drive them a bit on low volume but not much higher. The Krell on the other hand has no issue with it. But i like the sound of the A2K so much better, that i am selling the Krell and have the Apogee rewired from 1 to 4ohm.

We call that Class A vs. Class A/B.

Try Class A mono blocks with 14 tubes in each!!

It would cost me at a minimum $178 a month to leave my AMpzilla mono's on 24/7 as they will consume 259KW/h's in a month at .69 (yes .69!!!) a kw/H (delivered cost, not unit) that's waay to much wasted green for me...

Actually it'd be even higher as I would surpass my allotted energy and would pay additional penalty for over-usage.

Holy Macaroni!!!

Then my Son (which is 1/2 the monobloc pair) should cost almost $90 a month extra???

My whole electric bill is around $90 - $100 a month

I even have a 3 channel CineNova (300wpc x3) and a Citation 17 (135wpc x 2) also running 24/7

Maybe they have been reading someone elses meter

Maybe my neighbor pays $300 a month

Could be possible.  I don't think I'll ask though
