Alfalfa I do not particularly have enough of a handle on the geometry/physics of skating to speak knowledgably. Anti-skating counteracts a tendency for the arm, and thus the cantilever and stylus, to "skate" towards the center of the record. I had not been experiencing any problems without it in terms of channel balance but my cart doesn't have enough hours on it to see if the stylus is wearing evenly. So for the low cost I decided to get the anti-skate kit and give it a try, I am studying up on various ways to set it and for now have it set very low. There is not a consensus on it in the industry, and it is only going to be correct at two points on the LP as the stylus traverses it, but most do provide and use it.
