1219 parts question
« on: 15 Aug 2024, 02:02 pm »
Hi all - I've been working on a 1219 that fell into my hands. The platter doesn't turn when the motor comes on. It appears that the idler wheel isn't being pushed over against the motor shaft. That, in turn, seems to be related to the speed selector switch, which was gummed up. In the process of disassembly, cleaning and reassembly of that mechanism, I managed to screw myself up in two ways:
1. Damaged the vinyl keeper washer for the idler wheel.
2. Lost my grip on the idler shaft spring, which promptly flew off to some obscure corner of the room.
So now I have to ask, are these parts (vinyl washer and spring) generic enough that they're available off the shelf? If not, where might I find a source for replacements?? I'm seeing plenty of parts on eBay, but not these. Sometimes people sell idler wheels with washers included, but so far I don't think the idler is in bad shape. (Of course, I'm not sure whether putting it all back together will render the table "fully functional," but I'll cross that bridge if and when I get to it.)
I am in southwest Ohio and prefer to buy from a US source.

Ebay almost always has 3 or 4 pages of Dual 1219 parts. Even if you buy extra parts with what you need it may be smart to have some parts extra.....

Thanks for the suggestion. As I said, I've looked on eBay and saw plenty of 1219 parts, but not the ones I need.

I got the speed selector mechanism all cleaned up and working smoothly, but the idler wheel still doesn't pull against the motor spindle enough to turn the platter. (If I pull it manually, it does.) I tried to ask about idler wheel diameter, but didn't get a useful answer. Thinking I might have the wrong-size wheel from someone else's previous repair, I ordered an idler mechanism from an eBay seller who said it came out of a working 1219. It arrived today - it's 60 mm, exactly the same as the part in my 1219. Other measurements seem to match, including the spring; so I'm still unable to determine why the idler won't pull into the motor spindle far enough to turn the platter. If I pull it over manually, the platter turns fine. The only differences are in the number molded into the rubber tire (7 vs. 5), and the number stamped into the idler bracket (1 vs. 2).
