Small room sub strategy
« on: 28 Jul 2024, 01:30 pm »
I have a budget of 600 dollars for a new subwoofer(s) in a small office system (10' x 11' w/ 8' ceilings, Emotiva integrated 50 watts a channel, Elac debut reference dbr2 monitors near field.) Should I go with a single 600 dollar sub (like the SVS sb1000) or two 300 dollar subs (like the RSL 10E.)  I am leaning towards dual RSL's as previous experience has taught me that room has really strange nodes.  What would you do and why?

Whichever way you go, try not to place the sub/subs in the corner. That's how you get evenb bigger room nodes. And raise them off the ground if you can by about a foot also. I know that's not "traditional" placement, but if you already have boom, this should certainly help.

Vera-Fi Caldera 10 has been getting some reviews and would certainly fit the price point for a pair of them. Maybe as allowed, add a sheet of no-rez to the inside if you need to dampen the box a bit. And yes, boost the height, pull out into the room a bit and isolation footers will limit room modes.

Well the OP"s budget is over C&C guidelines, but nitiworld's suggestion of the Veri-fi sub at $199 looks very exciting.  So I'm going to leave the post here for a bit to see what develops.  If we get more C&C suggestions we'll keep it here.

The svs sb-1000 pro is $599 and superb. I used to have a set, they play nice in smaller rooms but have enough power to work well if you end up in a bigger room.
