Left a couple of batteries in a remote for a device I hadn't used in a long while. What can I use to clean up corrosion in the small ( 2 AAAs ) battery compartment. There is not a massive amount, but still, I'd like to get it as clean as possible. I was able to scrape a bit off the contacts with an Exacto knife, but I need to know what I can put on a small brush to get the rest off.
Never did take chemistry ( damnit! ), so I haven't a clue.

I can't help, but I'm interested too.  I have a gas fireplace insert that uses 4 AA batteries for emergency mode when it has no power.  I accidentally left the batteries in there, and now one of the contacts is corroded.  I thought I cleaned it, but during the last power outage, I put new batteries and it did not work. I had to turn on the power to the insert, and every watt counts when running a small gas generator on a large house.
