Welcome!
Building your own speaker cabinets is a crap shoot, lots of proud papa's out there. Suggest looking for a kit (drivers/crossover) and trying hard to audition first. ITn fact invest lots of time to audition gear. Take a selection of your favorite music to serious audio shops (with dedicated listening rooms) and take notes. Train your ears as to what you like. Find an ideal room (not small or square, well insulated, and private that you can dedicate to listening). My room is in the basement, 8ft x 13ft x 21ft (Fibonacci ratios), and smartly insulated.
The best speakers are active, used in nearly all recording studios. Actives use low voltage (sophisticated) crossovers that can include DACs and room EQ and amps individually loading the drivers (to provide a synergistic loading and lower bass). Prices for good ones range from $300/pair (JBL 305 Mk 2) to $125,000/pair (PMC BB6 XBD-A).
