The specs are up on the JVC website. The digital amp is said to be JVC's third version of the hybrid series

3-D...now that's something I can use as an
alternative amp in my system...

copy...the imaginative wording that they hope
will light a fire under their new product...

Or it may be the same sound as the F10 just better
described given all the feedback from forums like
ours which put their earlier iterations on the map...
at least among audio "aficionados"...

Still...I am excited to hear this thing...I may just
jump into it and get one as soon as they become
available...and then the l-o-n-g break-in...hummmmmm...

What do you think ChairGuy...does this look like it
may surpass the F10?

I think one feature the f10 has over these new receivers is the 5.1 inputs. it allows you to bypass all the dsp and only use the amplification-the reason why we're all interested in it in the first place. JVC made a mistake by not adding this to the new lineup imo.

Don't know Richard, but vpolineni makes an important point I missed on at least the new entry level model...no 5.1 analog discrete inputs. That could able a step back for sure...I don't know if step-ups have that feature, tho.

They are still using non-ferrous screws by the pic, so somebody in Japan is still thinking about sound quality, I think. And, I see that is it now a generation 3 hybrid digital...maybe has more drive then previous versions.

It's all guesswork until somebody buys one....

The jump in price from 201 ($199) to 302 ($399) is relatively huge, the only real differences being additional 10wpc and the wireless contraption.

I don't care about the 10 watts, but more info about the wireless connection would be very helpful. From what I gather, you plug the USB wireless "stick" into your PC's USB port, and there's wireless antenna on the receiver. The questions are:

What speed. 802.11b or g?
How much distance between PC and receiver in order to transmit audio signals without dropout.
Those usb plugin sticks don't work very well IME. The ones with wire that lets you position the USB antenna anywhere is a much more useful way.
Will the receiver work with my PC, which already has a USB antenna (another company).
Once wirelessly connected, how does one play PC audio files? Can one play Flac off Foobar on PC. Are the controls from PC or receiver side?

If I can wirelessly transmit my FLAC files from my PC upstairs to the JVC and play them, it would be worth the extra $200 for me..

Good points.
I use one of the 802.11b dongles with an upstairs PC and the signal is just okay, compared to my laptop, with built-in antenna that gets a strong signal.

What wireless spec?
What data rate - can it handle full .wav files?

I'm still leaning towards an Airport Express: I can send music from any computer on the network over to the device, and it uses G, so can handle uncompressed audio.

Convergence is almost upon us....

The rear photo shows "DVD Multi" inputs which will act as 5.1 inputs and allow the receiver to be used as essentially a 5 channel amplifier. This is how I used my old JVC receiver. 110 watts/channel of high quality amplification for cheap. Why waste channels of a mega expensive multi channel amplifier on rear surrounds?

If there was some way to configure the 6th and 7th channels of amplification for a zone 2, I would be all over this for less than $300. Or if I could sell one of my present multichannel amps, I would make a nice profit.

Sorry vpolineni, what you said about 5.1 inputs going
straight through the amp without dsp is not entirely clear to me,
although it sounds like you are basing your information from
direct experience...and ChairGuy confers...what exactly is dsp?
I assume it is some form of signal processing that depletes the
"purity" of the signal in some deleterious way...

I will only be using which ever amp I purchase for 2 channel use...
and it was my understanding...at least on the F10...that the 2
channel mode had the least augmentation of signal processing...
least complications...I thought that everyone who used the
F10 for multi-channel complained that the signal was effected
by signal processing and was not as "pure" sounding as the 2 channel
mode..that is why I am confused...

vpolineni and ChairGuy...are you both saying that even in 2 channel
mode you will not be able to bypass the addition of dsp?

Can you go more into this a bit...

I'm not excited as you are with the new crop. I'm almost considering trading my F10 for a ES1SL( I have easy to drive Von Schweikert VR2's). I don't think the corporate giants really care what we think. Witness the painful to use spring clips and non user replaceable power cord. I hope I'm wrong but I have a hunch there's no real improvement sound-wise.

Also, jrmusic.com has the 302 preorder for $299. Thats $100 cheaper than crutchfield. The 201 is the same price so there might be a typo somewhere.

The truth is my es1sl is sitting idle for the time being. I've gotten tired of swapping cables between my turntable and cd player to use the DVD-multi inputs. I've hooked up an older HK integrated in it's place for a while. I can't say that I prefer one amp over the other at this time.

The problem with the JVC receivers lies with the processing that the Chairguy pointed out. There is a huge difference in sound quality between the DVD/multi and other inputs. This has been discussed time and time again. Hopefully JVC has rectified this issue.

I was hoping that they would turn their one and only two channel receiver into a digital Hybrid, but there has been no indication as such.

So, who will be the first Guinee pig to try the new crop and compare to the old crop?

Thanks Fabaudio for tempering what now appears to
be my unfounded excitement...

I am also interested in the ES1SL...I am using a pair
of Omega Grand 8R's which are 96db sensitive...

ChairGuy thinks the ES1SL is more tube-like...but was not
able to drive his Maggies as effectively as the F10...less
grip as I understand it...

That consideration should not be important in my situation...
however...I have read here on AC a number of times that
the ES1SL has had quality control issues...with some units
not performing well...

ChairGuy would know more about this issue than I do...

But the idea of getting tube-like sound from the ES1SL is very
seductive. I assumed that this amp was no longer in production...
and I hate to buy it used given its performance-problem reputation...

I am no authority on how well used products survived, but I bought an ES-1 off a fellow AC'er back in the fall. I had it drop shipped to another AC'er, so that he could play around with it, and he then shipped it off to me.

It survived all those shipments, and performed fine for all 3 of us. I subsequently sold it to a good friend, who is using it presently, so I think that if it is a good one, it should be a good one for a while.
