I am biamping my Maggie 1.6QRs with the JVC F10. Currently the surround channels power the tweeters. The next step is to use on F10 for the left bass panel and tweeter, and one F10 for the right. At this price it makes sense to give the Maggies even more headroom. No heat issues with the JVC at all and it is driving 4 ohms. I do not go the digital route with the JVC, I think the Panny's are better for all digital but they don't drive difficult loads like the JVC.

I am going to order the JVC RX-D202B tomorrow from Crutchfield.

I was going to get it from techdepot, but I really trust Crutchfield and am willing to pay a little more for that trust. Total will be around 200$ including shipping.

I will post my opinions when I get it set up.

I will be very interested to hear your thoughts
on this latest iteration of the JVC hybrid technology...

It would be very interesting to compare this latest JVC
with the 2 earlier examples...

Chairguy has heard both and is using the F10 with his
Maggies...a lovely match that! Perhaps he might shed light
on this latest JVC if he ever has a chance to hear one...

I am strictly a 2 channel listener, el-cheapo, so give a listen
on 2 channels as part of your audition...thanks!

Just wanted to let everybody know that JVC now has the RX-D201/202 user manual up, I'm downloading it right now.

EDIT: Looks like the USB receiver IS of use!

It acts like a sound card when it is plugged into your computer. From JVC's manual:

"Corresponding to Linear PCM, Dolby Digital, and DTS (with
sampling frequency—32 kHz, 44.1 kHz, 48 kHz).

Sweet, I'm definitely considering getting one now.

EDIT 2: I found some info from JVC's dutch site abou the wireless pc-link on the 301. It seems it uses a proprietary wireless signal, similar to 2.4ghz phones:

"With a transfer speed of 2 mbps on a frequency of 2.4ghz even ongecomprimeerde files without loss can be transferred. THE DSSS (direct Sequence Spreading spectrum) modulatie send ongecomprimeerde (probably means uncomprimised) audio with an excellent indicator/ruis-verhouding, for an excellent sound quality."

LOL! I was just looking at it. I pulled the trigger and got it through crutchfield. I can hardly wait!!!

I do have a question though, prolly a dumb one.

I am only planning to do 5.1 with this, even though it supports 7.1

If I run 5.1 does it shut down the channels not used or does it expect that I would have 2 sets of speakers for the back channel?

I guess I will find out!

Anybody have any good recommendations for getting good quality cabling at good prices?

No, whatever speaker terminals you are not using you can turn off. You do not need to add more speakers. the user manual outlines pretty well how to do this.

I am not really going to be able to deliver a comparative review. Also being a bit of a newbie it will prolly be hard for me to provide much substanative opinion.
It will probably be more oos and ahhhs than anything.

But really, at the price I think I am the target customer, not really an audiophile, just want a good HT receiver that gives me max quality at a good price with more flexability than a HT "in the box".

My speakers are a bit odd also. I have a EC25 jbl center channel, two AR bookshelf speakers for what I think will be the fronts, and a pair of older Carlton KEF Floor standing speakers. I have no idea what it will sound like.

Love to hear your take on them, whatever the outcome.

Tho I have only the baby MMG Maggies, the JVC F-10 starts to clip past '30' on the dial (not a large room I'm in, either). I don't ever listen to it much louder then that for any length of time, but this tells me the Maggies are a little power starved at even lower volumes...but it still sounds dang nice in here. But, there is likely room for improvement on the power front.

If they have improved the amplifier section and made it a little more robust 100 watter (especially for us low sensitivity, planar folks), the new JVC's may be a cut-rate dream for many.

hey el-cheapo, it might be helpful to keep in mind (if you haven't already) that the previous generation JVC digital receivers have a straight-through signal path that doesn't use digital signal processing, as well as other signal paths that do. The straight-through path has given most of us the best sound quality. On the F10, it's the DVD-Multi circuit. If there's the same thing in the new JVCs, you might experience a difference in quality if you're running through this as opposed to other inputs. I'm not sure what it would be called on your new unit.

Also, the F10 took about 80 hours of break-in before it started sounding really good.

I honestly can't wait to hear this bad boy.

I will definately be doing some tests with 2 channel at some point also. I have a good deal of vinyl tucked away.

I am interested in you alls opinions of cheap speaker cable though.
I have read a lot of posts saying 12 gauge electrical wire is just as good as anything, does anyone have any opinions on good cheap (as in el-cheapo) speaker wire alternatives? My speaker runs may be as long as 20 feet.

By the way, Crutchfield rocks.

Well, I got home and couldn't wait to dig into the box.

The receiver is way heavier than I thought from looking at the pics online. Also build quality is really nice, it feels solid. I instantly felt like I had made a good choice just looking at the thing...

I regret to report that I don't have the cables neccessary to put this through a complete test in full digital mode, but I couldn't wait to hook up my speakers and at least check out a CD.

I will definately post more as I test out various features and after I optimize stuff.

Now, I know you all techies are going to have a lot of questions I wont be able to answer, I will try to help as best I can.

I put in a CD (steely dan) and just listened in Analog mode for my first and only test tonight. Ok, so I am a newbie, but I can see why people go nuts for this stuff. I cranked it up and the sound was nice and clear and rich, really blew me away. I sat there on my basement floor with a big sh*t eating grin on my face.

Power wise, I couldn't crank it more than 47 (no spinal tap jokes please) when I did I think my speakers lost a little clarity, but not much. Still that was way louder than I would typically listen.

As far as saying it is better or worse than the F10, I can't really say, until a lot more opinions than just mine come in.

I will post more as I break it in and figure it out, it is going to be a fun weekend!

I will be on the lookout for a good JVC Progressive Scan DVD player for convergence sake.

Unfourtuantely I can't really provide any direct comparisons between this and other amps, but if you buy from Crutchfield they provide free return shipping. If you don't like it, send it back.

So far I am VERY happy. $200 is pretty damn cheap.

Could you tell me if the receiver has indepentently selectable video and audio inputs?

Mainly I want to be able to pick one video input, and then use the USB or wireless link to play music from my PC. I commonly play video games and listen to music at the same time. Currently I can do that by selecting a digital input on my Outlaw.
